Lonely Wolf
(From the mind of Remus J. Lupin)

I am alone
Cursed,
Ever to wander,
Ever to dream,
To think
Of what might have been,
What might I have seen,
If not for the monster
Inside of me?

I am alone,
With sorrow in my heart,
Evil in my blood,
Flowing through my veins
Like a broken stream
In the eve of the morn,
With nowhere to flow,
Nowhere to run.

I am alone,
But for the moon in the sky,
And the trees in the moor,
And the owl up high,
La Lune staring down,
Meeting her gaze,
I fear her eyes,
Her smirking face.

I am alone,
Shunned by my peers,
I watch,
I see their fear,
Their anger;
As they hurry
To find shelter
Away from my footsteps.

I am alone,
Never to love,
Never to give,
Never to hope,
Never to fear,
Always to hide,
Always to go,
Always to dream,
Always to know
I am alone.
