A Second Chance

Spoilers: 3rd Season between 'Fractures' and 'Dog With Two Bones.'
"Aeryn?" Chiana raced after the angry Peacekeeper. "Aeryn, wait up."
Stopping, Aeryn didn't turn around.
"Didn't you see the look on John's face when you just walked away from him? Aeryn, what is with you?"
Stone silence followed.
"Aeryn?"
In an unemotional voice Aeryn said. "Nothing is wrong."
"The frell it isn't," Chiana snapped.
Aeryn faced her. "You know nothing. So stay the frell out of my business."
Chiana looked crestfallen for a microt, when Aeryn walked away from her. Chiana wasn't about to quit. Sprinting after Aeryn, she called out. "You said you love him."
Aeryn came up short; she spun around giving Chiana an expressionless glare. Standing out of her reach Chiana said. "I distinctly remember you telling me that you love him. You can't deny it."
"I don't deny it." Aeryn said.
"Then why do you walk away from him? You act as if he isn't even there. Aeryn, why?" Chiana's voice dropped to a whisper.
"It's none of your business."
"It is when you're the one trying to keep him from."
Aeryn turned not wanting to hear. Angrily, Chiana reached out and grabbed Aeryn by the arm spinning her. Snatching her arm back, Aeryn snarled. "Don't touch me."
Chiana didn't back down instead she invaded Aeryn's space by moving toward her. "You haven't been here to see what he was like. You say you love him, but like all Peacekeepers you don't have a clue what love really means."
Aeryn remained quieted her eyes grew colder. "You're the one that doesn't have a clue what it's like to."
"To loose someone you love." Chiana finished for her. "You're the one that doesn't understand what an opportunity you have. I would give anything to have that chance to get back what you thought was lost."
Aeryn took a step back, her eyes never leaving Chiana's face. The pain and lost was there. All the feeling bottled up in Aeryn was there in Chiana's eyes. Taking a deep breath Aeryn took another step back. "That might be. It's.I can't."
For the first time Chiana could see behind Aeryn's armor. The pain, the sense of lost.new emotions that Aeryn was trying to handle. Something the Peacekeepers never really had trained her to do. Both shared an understanding of what it was to love and lost.
"I love him more than.I need time. It's not that simple." Aeryn turned away. "I need time. I just need time."
Chiana watched her disappear down the corridor. Chiana murmured under her breath. "How much time, Aeryn? How much time before you loose your second chance at love?"
