'We're friends, aren't we Catherine?' I felt stupid asking her it, but it had been playing on my mind for a while.

She didn't reply. Instead, she ran her finger around my navel for the thousandth time. With every circle my skin went cold and I let out tiny gasps. She knows how much it tickles me, but that doesn't stop her. I think it actually encourages her to continue. With one last circle around my navel she turns over and climbs on top of me, positioning her left leg between my own and her hands moving up my torso.

Catherine looked at me and flashed a warm smile. This was her way of not talking about something. She leaned down and tried to kiss me but I turned my head away. She kissed my neck instead and I closed my eyes. I hated it when she kissed that spot just below my collarbone. No, I loved it and she knew it.

'Wait. Catherine, stop it.' My tone of voice came out slightly harsher than I intended it too. I have a tendency to do that, as most of my work colleagues know. Those who don't think I'm cold and insensitive. That was the special thing about Catherine; she always knew what I meant and when I said things I didn't mean to, she understood and forgave me.

'You don't usually ask me to stop,' she said, a smirk emerging from the corner of her mouth. I knew some witty remark was about to pass through her lips. 'Usually you beg me to continue,' she finished. 'Is that what you want? I can go home?'

'No,' I said as I reached for her wrist. 'I didn't mean that.'

'I know,' she replied, scrunching her nose up and leaning back into me. She brushed her lips across my neck and latched onto my right earlobe.

'Stop,' I snapped. I grabbed her shoulders and pushed her up. She straddled my hips and pouted slightly. 'Are we friends?'

I watched her mouth intently, waiting for an answer. She bit the corner of her bottom lip and sucked it slightly before turning her attention back to me. 'We're more than friends. We're lovers.'

She hadn't really answered my question. I knew we were lovers. That sort of thing is naturally more than friends. 'But Catherine, are we friends?' I asked again.

She didn't reply, but again flashed me one of those warm smiles like it resolved the whole issue. 'I already said, we're more than that.'

'Catherine?' 'I have to pick Lindsey up from school. I'll see you tomorrow.' She finished getting dressed, pulled on her coat and left. I'm still led here. Wondering.
