his footsteps parted the ash on the ground. walking heavily in a sea of grey, he came to his destination almost as fast as he departed. sephiroth glanced upward, almost as if he were reassuring himself of his impending actions. the stained glass shimmered like the fire in his eyes... like the fire in his heart. he slowly pulled open the door and walked inside. among the ruins near the altar stood three children. sephiroth waved his arm to the side, motioning the children to leave quickly. he walked toward the pile rubble in the center where the flowers still grew. following behind him were two creatures, invisible to the naked eye.

"you are sure about this?" one questioned. sephiroth stared at the flowers and replied softly, "why wouldn't i be? as if this place had any meaning to you, to me, to anyone other than its creators." "it's a place of sanctuary for the troubled," said the creature. "sanctuary? you mean religion. a religious sanctuary, devoted to the peace and well-being of its followers. peace... beliefs... both are false perspectives bent on the ignorant 'trust' of stability... something this planet hasn't had for a very long time. things are changing. they will have their peace as they find their home in the lifestream."

sephiroth knelt down, almost as if he could hear an orchestra behind him, fueling his wretched desires. a flash of green light appeared beneath his feet, and a spark grew in his palm. he then shoved out his arms and sent the spark to the ceiling. the rafters began to burn first.

"it looks almost poetic, doesn't it? the way the flame takes its own path and strays away from itself. it's like it was born to be separated from itself. the only beauty i find in this is the success of what i've chosen to destroy. that cetra girl should've learned the first time."

sephiroth and the two creatures walked out as the altar was set aflame. the heat, being so intense, began to melt the stained glass. the entire cathedral turned into a brilliant orange. smoke, unable to ventilate itself, filled the sector as people began to realize what was happening. by the time they made it through the smoke, sephiroth was gone, and so was aeris's church. the only thing remaining was one solitary flower.
