'I love it when you do that.'
Sara smiles at me as I speak. The gap between her two front teeth is partially clogged with peanut butter and there is a small amount on her chin. She's sat there in front of me. Holding a spoon and a jar of smooth peanut butter, her favourite snack.
'That jar's meant to last all week,' I say, trying to tear the jar from her grip. She delves the spoon into it once more and grins at me. I place the top back on the jar and take it too the kitchen. Nearly half of it is gone, a small amount used in Lindsey's lunch box, the rest Sara has eaten.
I begin to wash up and Sara comes over. She drops her spoon into the washing-up bowl, wraps her arms around my waist and nuzzles into my neck. 'Can't you do that later?' she asks.
Now it's my turn to smile. I turn around to face her and stroked her face with my hand. The bubbles from the washing up liquid stick to her cheek and began to pop.
'I love you,' she says to me.
'You have peanut butter on your chin and I love you too,' I reply, wiping it off just as the last bubble pops on her cheek.
We sat down in front of the TV again. This time she lays her head down on my lap and flings her legs over the arm of the couch. As the minutes pass, I see her dosing off gradually. Her eyes tightly closed, she's asleep. I stroke her forehead gently, brushing the stray hairs from her face. I do love her and her peanut butter. I trace the outline of her lips with my fingertip gently and she mumbles in her sleep.
I wonder what she's dreaming as I run my fingertip across her lips again. She smiles in her sleep. I love it that she likes my touch and reacts to it even in her sleep.
As I trace her lips once more she mumbles again. 'Grissom,' she says, as she turns over on my lap.
