Encore

.

"I love you," you didn't say,
the words drowned in your less blatant lies,
the deadly caresses between us
Salty on my wounds,
but tasteless in your mouth.

"I love you," you didn't say,
knowing I wouldn't have believed it anyway.
I had heard it spoken enough,
lasting no more than the year's end,
meaning no more than an average play.

"I love you," you didn't say,
though you had no qualms about lying at all;
'cause it hadn't been you who owned
the words,
the feeling.

"I love you," you didn't say,
leaving an empty room inside my mind,
though choked full it had been
with your existence, my wish,
our destiny.

"I love you," you didn't say,
the words too profound a truth,
that would have shattered all illusions and cracked the barrier open
to the light at the end of my tunnel, and
the death of your shadow.

Author Notes:
The title comes from "Encore at Rainbow Bridge", the title given to the chapter that inspires this.
I read that on asphyxia dot tv, if I remember correctly.
