Sirius plopped down on Remus' bed, looking thoughtful. Remus himself was leaning against the headboard, and James was on the bed across working on homework.
"What're you so worried about?" Remus asked him.
"I'm not really worried," Sirius said. "Just thinking……Americans are pretty weird…"
"Why?" James asked, looking over his potions essay.
"Well," Sirius said, rolling onto his back. "They have a holiday in November that they dedicate to eating turkey and cranberry sauce."
Remus sighed and rolled his eyes. "It's not to celebrate eating, dimwit," he said, rather irritably. "It's called Thanksgiving."
"Yeah, and what do you think they think about the Cheese Rolling," James said, glancing up and smirking.
"It was founded by President Abraham Lincoln, sixteenth American President, in 1865 to show appreciation for what they have. The big event is eating, because when the Pilgrims moved there they weren't good farmers, and the Native Americans helped them. They showed them how to plant corn and stuff, and save it for the winter," Remus said.
Sirius and James stared at Remus for a moment. "Where do you learn that stuff?" Sirius asked incredulously.
"I read, Sirius," Remus said.
"Well, so do we, but we don't know the order of the American presedents, or dates that holidays were founded, or anything like that," James said.
"I'm still struggling with remembering our history," Sirius said, shaking his head.
"Alright," Remus said, "Then I should say I've studied world history."
They sat in silence for a moment.
"Why don't we have a Thanksgiving?" Sirius asked, pouting slightly.
"Because we don't have a real reason," Remus said. "We did fine on our own."
"I'm not talking about thanking for that kind of stuff," Sirius said. "I'm thinking for little things that mean a lot."
"Like what?" Remus asked.
"I don't know," Sirius said. "Alright, I'll start by thanking James' parents when I left home."
Sirius' friends were looking at him. The door creaked open and Peter walked into the room.
"What's going on?" He asked.
"We're going to thank people for stuff," Sirius said.
"Like what?" Peter asked.
"Anything," Sirius said.
"Okay," Peter said. Then, frowning slightly, he sat on the edge of James' bed. "Thanks for helping me with my transfiguration homework, Sirius."
"No problem," Sirius smiled.
"Thanks for………" James paused. "Thanks for putting up with my whining about Lily Evans.
Remus snorted.
"Your turn," James said, smiling at Remus.
"Fine," Remus said. "Thank you for becoming Animagi to help me."
"Thanks for all you helping me to be able to be one," Peter said, blushing slightly.
"Thanks for forgiving me last year, Remus," Sirius said quietly.
"Thanks for even being my friend," Remus said, staring at his hands.
"Remus," James said, in a slightly scolding voice, "There's no need to thank us for that."
"We like you no matter what," Peter said.
"Yeah," Sirius added, putting an arm around Remus' shoulders.
"Just……thanks," Remus said, smiling broadly.
