Remus Lupin turned around in shock at hearing a cry of grief and rage echo across the stone room. He saw a brown haired woman in a strange outfit lunge at the woman who had just cursed Sirius into the veil. As he watched her dive at were her adversary had been Remus caught sight of her face and almost released the young boy he was restraining. His attention was quickly diverted by the collapse of the boy he was supporting.
Mean while the woman had fallen to her knees, a look of loss and confusion in her eyes, ignoring the battle raging around her. She only sat there for a moment, not being the type of woman to do nothing in a situation such as this.
She quickly stood up and found a Deatheater that was not currently engaged, but was staring at her in shock and recognition.
"Peter," she whispered in a voice full of rage and fresh sorrow.
"Elizabeth, where.wh-where did you c-come fr-from," Peter stuttered.
"That does not matter, now does it? I know what you did. I may have been gone, but I was not uninformed. You will pay," she informed him in a deadly whisper.
All of a sudden Peter's face lit up with a grin. "Not today, Elizabeth." With that said he whispered something unintelligible and a cloud of tear gas appeared obscuring any sight of him. When Elizabeth managed to get it all clear the battles were over, and Peter had escaped.
Elizabeth hurried to help any wounded but they were all taken care of. She heard a voice call her name and she cringed. What am I going to tell him, she thought. He won't understand, Sirius won't- she stopped at that thought. The full weight and meaning of what she had seen when she first got back crashed down on her. "Oh god, Sirius," she whispered, tears streaming down her face as she collapsed once again to her knees.
She had forgotten about the man behind her; when she saw his feet in front of her she looked up into his eyes and looked away.
"So you came back Elizabeth. Where did you go?" Remus asked quietly, afraid of a trick.
Elizabeth just looked up at him, tears still streaming down her face, a sob escaped her. She looked down at her hands, resting in her lap. "I was supposed to be able to save him. He was supposed to bring to the moment when I could save him," she whispered quietly, making Remus strain to hear her.
Remus kneeled down next to her. "What are you talking about, Elizabeth? Save wh-"
Remus suddenly realized whom she had wished to save. He sat down abruptly, his head falling to rest on the palms of his hands.
"I'm so sorry, Remus. He told me I could save him, he promised."
Remus looked up, and opened his mouth to say something, but she passed out before he could get the words out.
