Squall's farewell

How was he going to say this to her. They had been together for three years and he was not happy. Things had changed very much. He thought to himself (how am I to do this.) his thoughts were interrupted by Rinoa wrapping her arm around his waist.
"Rinoa, there is something very important that we have to talk about." He said to her. "What could be so important that we have to talk about, my love, what is on your mind?" She asked. He removed her arms from around his waist and led her over to the bed. Once sitting her on the bed, he perched on beside her. He turned and locked eyes with her "Rinoa, I.Rinoa, you know that I love you right, but there is a problem.I." he couldn't say it. "Squall, what is the matter?" she asked him
He leant forwards and dropped his hands into his head. "I am sorry Rinoa when I say this. We.I.am breaking up with you, it is not you, it is me. I am such a failure. This is not how I imagined my life would be.I am so sorry." He said, without looking at her.
"Squall, look at me, you are not a failure. What do you mean by, you are breaking up with me? Why is your life not the way that you wanted.if it is me I can change. I make you happy" she said to him.
"I just am, I am breaking up with you, so that you don't have to waste your time with a guy like me.you do make me happy, you don't have to change. I think it is just best if I leave, so you can find someone worth living with. I want you to be free, so that you could find somebody else." He said whilst standing up and removing his ring from his finger.
"Please don't leave me Squall, I know things are stressful at this moment. I know that you are a little bit tired of the conditions of me being a sorceress and you being made the commander of the garden, but we can get through this." She said
He went over to the door. "Goodbye Rinoa, I think this is for the best. You will be better off without me. Goodbye Rinoa." He turned around and closed the door, but before he closed it, he dropped his set of keys, and gave her one last kiss on her forehead.
He closed the door, not letting Rinoa see the tears streaming down his cheeks. He went and dried his eyes. He walked slowly to Headmaster Cid's office. He knocked on the door. "Enter." Was all that was said. "I am here to hand over my position and I am leaving the garden. I need time to think." Squall said quietly. "Well, then, when are you planning on coming back?" The headmaster asked. "I am not coming back."Squall trailed off. Squall closed the door to the headmaster.
All the possessions he took were his wallet, his mobile phone and his gunblade. He was going to start a new life away from the garden. Rinoa was in the bedroom crying her eyes out. She went to the balcony and saw him driving away in his car. She cried a lot. She was going to miss him lots and lots. "Please let Squall be alright." She said between sniffles. She watched the sun set. Tears were still coming from her face.
As Squall drove on, he stopped, looked back at the garden and continued driving. There were tears still in his eyes, but not down his face like Rinoa. He thought that he had done the right thing. He had done it for the best or had he?
