Martin forced himself to go over the case file for just a little while longer. He was torturing himself. What had they done wrong on this case? He questioned. Everything seemed to be going well. They had several leads, yet the missing teenager still ended up dead in a ditch.

Sure, they lost a lot of people, but it never got any easier. Especially when the victims were so young.

"This just."

"Sucks," he was surprised as someone cut him off.

He felt as if his heart skipped a beat at the sound of her voice.

"I couldn't have said it better myself." He said with a smile.

With a sigh Agent Samantha Spade sunk into the chair beside Martin, "I hate these cases."

"The ones involving kids?"

"No, the ones where we lose them."

"Yeah," he said quietly.

The office was empty and dark. Mostly everyone had gone home for the night. Jack was still around somewhere, and Martin was pretty sure Danny hadn't left just yet. But he and Samantha were currently alone. That single thought excited the grown man.

"It's getting late. You heading home?" She asked as she grabbed her jacket.

He laughed, "Actually I planned on getting a few drinks."

"Want some company?" she laughed as he quickly grabbed his car keys and jumped up.

"Hell yeah." He said with a grin.

"Please just don't get me drunk. We have work tomorrow."

30 minutes and 3 drinks later Samantha and Martin were sitting at a bar sharing a few things about their personal lives.

"Let's talk about something more interesting than our upbringings."

"What do you have in mind?" she said while downing a shot.

"I don't know, " he sighed, "how about Lauren."

Samantha frowned and set down her glass, "Martin you got to let it go. We did everything we could."

"If we had done everything we could she would still be alive."

After one long, deep, sigh, and another shot, Samantha stood up.

"You want to get out of here?"

"I don't want to go home just yet."

She waited for a moment, then responded, "How about mine then?"

He was stunned at the implications, "You sure?"

She tossed it over in her head several times, but only came to one conclusion. Hell yeah she was sure.

"My place is close to here," Samantha said trying to think of a reason, "You might as well just crash there. It's within walking distance and neither of us are in any condition to drive"

"Oh, yeah. Right." He tried not to sound disappointed.

The possibilities raced through both of their minds.
