Sugar Cookies

"Did you… do you… love your parents?" She gazed at him and her voice was barely a whisper; then her pale hand reached out to take another sugar cookie.

His eyes met her gaze and he stayed silent while taking in her appearance. She looked so innocent, so naïve. But she was not. He knew this. There was no more innocence, no more purity, not in this time with such darkness rising. She would never be innocent. None of his friends would ever be. Never again. Her pale blue-green eyes were emotionless, but this somehow gave them a naïve effect. If only.

"Perhaps…" He said after a long silence, "Perhaps at one time I loved them. But I do not now. Not ever again."

"Do you think they ever loved you?" She pondered.

"Maybe. Maybe before Regulus came. Obedient, perfect Regulus." He spat the name like it was a sin.

"Do love Regulus?" She tipped her head, and her hand rested on the cookie, though she did not make any movement that she would soon pick it up.

"As much as I wish… that I didn't, I do. I try to hate him. I do. But he's so- naïve. Perhaps the only thing left with naivety." His tone was ironic, and a sneer appeared on his face. "It's so… funny how someone so… detestable… can be the last shred of naivety."

"Perhaps… Perhaps someday things will change. Perhaps someday it will get better." Her words seemed foolish even to her as soon as they came out.

            "Perhaps." His tone said otherwise.

"Do you love me?" The question came so suddenly that he was startled for a moment.

"Love you? Perhaps. I care for you. I'd die for you. But I do not know if I love you. I barely know what love is." He reached out and cupped her chin. "Perhaps I love you."

"We could leave someday if you did. Perhaps we could run away from it all. Leave no note and never come back." She spoke softly, and he could tell she felt ridiculous.

"We could elope and change our names." He smiled wryly dropping his hand back into his lap, "Perhaps one day we shall, Sweets."

"We could have a child." She smiled ever so slightly, and finally began to eat the sugar cookie.

"And it would be a girl and we would name her Viviahna and she would be just a beautiful as her mother and with the same fondness of sugar cookies." His tone was playful and she smiled.

"And she'd be a good little girl; her daddy's girl. She'd be sweet, caring, intelligent and simply lovely child." She reached out for his hand, and he gently intertwined his fingers in her.

"And she'd grow up without the concern of… darkness… and get married herself. And we'd get grandchildren and we'd happily grow old together, always and forever." He finished softly, looking towards the window.

"Perhaps someday…" She said tenderly, "Someday when you know you love me like I love you, Sirius."

"Perhaps someday, Sweets. Perhaps someday." Sirius Black (Just turned sixteen) turned back to the young fifteen-almost-sixteen year old girl and gently kissed her forehead.

"Perhaps when I know what love is." He gave a wry smile and they sat in silence, eating sugar cookies and dreaming about 'perhaps'.

A/N: Heh. This will go with a story I'm gonna try and write. O.o I've been reading too much of an ff.n author if that explains the different style. If you can tell me who I've been reading you can get a sugar cookie. (Yeah, it's a Harry Potter fanfiction author) Oh- the girl is an original character. For now you just pretend it's whoever as long as hey have pale blue-green eyes. ^.^

Disclaim: I own the girl. Really. That's it. Sirius is J.K. Rowlings.
