Between the darkness of night that filled the corridor and the flickering of the lamplight stood a pale boy. Dark circles hung like curtains under his eyes. His colorless hair was patted flat against his equally ashen skin. He walked in a line, tracing his footsteps over and over, as he waited by the doorway. Back and forth, back and forth. He paced as he waited for what seemed like an eternity. She was taking too long. She always took too long. The boy's heavy footsteps stopped when the door swung open. It was time.
A tall, skinny girl stepped out of the black room and into the hall. Her long, black hair was pulled back sloppily. Her skin was just as pasty and white as his, with the exception of the few tiny freckles that dotted her nose. Her face carried a look of distress. "Malfoy," she said, looking at the boy's feet. She walked into the hall, shutting the door and running her hand along the cold wall. She didn't look up. They walked, concealed within the shadows. Neither said a word. Both had minds too busy with thoughts to say anything. The girl held her arm so tightly it began to tingle. The boy drew his cloak tighter. Malfoy Manor was always chilly, but tonight it seemed at its coldest. The boy and girl trudged into the foyer. It was time.
They were waiting, a small crowd by the doorway. His father, her father. Others that neither the boy nor girl recognized. No one spoke, but the elders all smiled. The smiles weren't comforting, but nobody expected comfort. It was time.
The boy's look of worry was replaced with a smirk as he looked around the room. He swallowed any fear that had been rising; all of his doubts left as his father approached him. His father's heavy hand fell onto his shoulder with a thud. He was proud. He was impossible to please, and he was proud. Draco nodded his head at Pansy. The girl's grimace was slowly replaced with a matching smirk as she looked from Draco to the elders. She raised an eyebrow at the boy. He grinned. It was time.
