Hogwarts, A History Revised
Chapter 113c
Hogwarts versus Lord Voldemort
As the only witnesses to the battle at the time this was written were students, wounded teachers, and imprisoned Death Eaters, this account may not be entirely accurate, as many of the people named above gave many different accounts. The stories range from students and some delirious teachers exclaiming they witnessed the apocalypse; to a girl claiming that her sister had died, when the sister was standing right next to her, perfectly unharmed; to some claiming Voldemort had taken over and we were all trapped in our own minds.
After finding some common elements in some stories, and witnessing quite a bit of it myself, I was able to piece together the real story.
The Order of the Phoenix was largely responsible for the victory of Hogwarts. Made up of quite a few Aurors, many powerful wizards and witches, and some specially selected Hogwarts students, the Order made up the front lines. Among them were Albus Dumbledore, who later fell in battle; Harry Potter, savior of the wizarding world; Hermione Granger, Ronald, Fred, and George Weasley, good friends of Harry Potter; Remus Lupin, a werewolf and former Hogwarts professor; and most surprisingly, Draco Malfoy, later known as a spy on Death Eaters that was discovered and tortured before being rescued by Harry Potter and some other members of the Order.
Other people who valiantly fought in the battle that ended the war, were many seventh years and sixth years from the school, along with some fifth years that were brave enough. Later would come more Aurors and civilians, having heard of the battle from somebody smart enough to owl as many people as possible before being killed by a stray curse.
The fighting lasted more than a day, and when it ended the expansive Hogwarts grounds were convered in bodies. Voldemort's forces had included not just humans, but giants, trolls, and dark creatures. Voldemort himself was said to be killed somewhere in the middle of the fighting, after killing Albus Dumbledore, Cornelius Fudge, and Rubeus Hagrid; Harry Potter, who had been prophesized (by Sybill Trewlaney, who was later kidnapped by Death Eaters and never found) to either kill the Dark Lord or be killed by him, had killed Voldemort, and nearly died himself in the aftermath. The fighting continued, the Death Eaters being led by Lucius Malfoy, father of Draco Malfoy. Many of the humans under Voldemort had fleed after his death, but the creatures and some humans remained. Lucius Maloy was killed in the end, and the creatures were slaughtered. Many Death Eaters are still in hiding.
Many people were missing after the war. Ginny Weasley, a powerful witch in her own right, had disappeared after the kidnapping of Draco Malfoy, and was never found. Severus Snape, a spy for the Order of the Phoenix, was found in a cell in Azkaban after Aurors took it back from Voldemort's forces, and is in what remains of St. Mungo's. Nobody is sure if he will ever recover. Viktor Krum, famed Quidditch star and Tri-Wizard tournament champion, has become permanently insane. Many suspect the Lestranges to be the cause, as they did something very similar to the Longbottoms in the first war. Neville Longbottom, their son, was found in a Death Eater fortress, having resisted the Imperius Curse and been tortured by the Cruciatus Curse. He recovered within a year.
Harry Potter became an Auror, dedicating his life to rounding up the last of the Death Eaters. Ron Weasley became a Quidditch star, and has led England to many World Cups. Hermione Granger took up the post of Transfiguration professor of Hogwarts after Minerva McGonnagle vacated the post to become Headmistress.
The rebuilding of Hogwarts has taken two years, and another year to open.
