The Adventures of Shannon Bauer: Installment #1

Shannon screamed.

There was a HUGE and HAIRY spider on the wall. Its enormous size made it resemble a large mammal of some kind. The girl stepped slowly back toward the door - toward safety and freedom. The thing responded by baring its pearly white fangs.

Fangs? Shannon thought after stifling the urge to scream. Should a spider have fangs like that?

Almost as if it were angered by her thoughts, the creature let out a loud howl and pounced upon Shannon's right shoulder. Shannon screamed and frantically grabbed for something to use as a weapon. However, her struggles only made the fangs dig deeper into her flesh. Finally, her hand landed on something--table lamp!

Eh, good enough…she thought as she quickly brought it down on the hairy beast. The impact left it dazed for a moment, but the grips of its spiny limbs did not loosen.

Shannon was becoming more annoyed than scared now. What the hell did this thing want with her? And how did it get into her room in the first place? And above all, WHERE WAS JACK BAUER WHEN SHE NEEDED HIM THE MOST?!!

Right then, her eye landed on the Flaunt magazine with Kiefer Sutherland on the cover. This gave her newfound strength; her emerald eyes shined with a newfound determination.

I must survive this battle. If not for myself, then for Kiefer!

She whacked at the spider harder, hitting it over the head with the strength of an unwavering rabid fangirl. The spider's protective shell soon gave way with a sickening crack. Shannon grabbed another random object--a lightsaber. Perfect. Where the hell did this come from? Well, that didn't matter. She speedily chopped the spider's torso in half. It let out an agonized cry and quivered a few times on the floor before finally dying. Shannon groaned. That would leave a stain...

The victor brushed back her long, autumn-wheat hair and readjusted her top. Just another day in the life of Shannon Bauer, Editor in Chief / Federal Agent. Being a strong, independent woman had its prices. A life of constant danger was one of them, the other was a life without love.
