It started out they hated each other. They just rubbed each other the wrong way. That didn't last long, though, once the power went out and they 'accidentally' got locked together in a room due to some lockdown procedure the whole mansion goes through.

They never 'did' anything, despite what everyone thought. When she went up to his room, all they really did was make out and watch tv. The general consensus was either that he was taking advantage of her because of the age difference, or she was taking advantage of him to get away with more stuff. Only a few knew the truth.

They had known each other for three weeks before things got really heated up. He knew he would have to leave so, lest Black Air would find him and take him away again. He could not go through that a second time. He knew if that were to happen, she couldn't bear it.

He knew he would have to leave fast. If they found him now, they surely would kill him for eluding them for so long. All he knew was the prickling at the back of his neck meant only one thing. Danger.

He knew he would have to leave the next day. It was on a date with his Katherine that he figured it out. He had seen the car following them all night, so he decided to try and loose them so they could get away. They ended up at a cabin only the adults knew the professor had.

Katherine knew this night was different from the other nights. The man she had been in love with from the first night she accidentally smashed his nose in with the door was acting differently. She had noticed the car following them, but had no idea it would force them to take refuge in a cabin she never knew existed.

He told her the truth that night. All of it. From his mother dying and giving him the rings to being approached by Black Air to Culley dying to asking for Xavier's help. He told her that he loved her and wanted to run away with her someday. They went further than they ever had been before that night. Later after his Katherine was asleep, he got a call.

She woke up and he was gone. There was a note explaining he had gotten a call that Black Air was onto him and he had to leave. It said that he loved her and he wanted her to explain what she could to everyone. Beside the note were the rings on a fine silver chain. Written on paper beneath the rings were the words," I'll be back for these." She cried as she slipped the chain over her head.

When Katherine finally got back to the mansion, everyone was full of questions. What happened, Where is he, Did you fight, stuff like that. After she told the Professor what had happened, she rarely came out of her room. She missed him something fierce. It wasn't because they had made love. It wasn't because he had proposed. She was just in love with a man who was who knows how far away. The only person who could relate was Rogue, herself being in love with a man she had no idea where he was.

Kitty Pryde knew he'd come back to her. Not because she loved him, although she did. Not because he loved her, although he did. But because he promised. And Pete Wisdom had yet to break a promise to her.
