When Hermione Granger received her Hogwarts letter, she was thrilled. She was a witch. She couldn't be happier in her life. Her parents couldn't be happier for their little girl. They were amazed at this new world that had been waiting for them to see when they stepped into Diagon alley. She went into Madam Milkins Robes for all Occasions and got her robes for Hogwarts, she went into Ollivanders and got a wand that she needed, the last thing that she needed to buy was her school books. She entered Flourish and Blotts to see a wide variety of books to suit her every need. She went to ask the woman at the counter if she could help her pick out her books for Hogwarts. The woman and Hermione went around the shop and collected all the school books that she needed. The woman asked Hermione if she would like to have another look around the shop to see the other books about the magical world.
"Yes, thank you." She said politely.
She walked around the shop until she found the history section. She pulled out a wide range of books from the history of dragons to the history of the Triwizard Tournament 'What ever that is.' She thought. She found a large leather bound book titled 'Hogwarts: a history' with a picture of a very old looking man. She was definitely buying this book she thought. Noticing someone behind her she turned around. It was a blond haired boy with grey eyes.
"Hello." She said.
"Hi." Said the boy in a calm voice.
"I'm Hermione Granger." And she put her hand out to shake his.
"Draco Malfoy." He extended his arm and kissed her hand.
She looked surprised she didn't expect to be kissed on the hand by a complete stranger.
"Are you going to Hogwarts?" she asked
"Yes, are you?"
She nodded her head.
"What house do you want to be in?"
"Oh, I don't really no. I didn't even know about the wizarding world until last week."
He stared at her. If his father found out he had been talking to muggle born, he would be big trouble. But for some reason he stayed and they talked about his family and her family and all sorts of things, until she had to go.
"So I guess I'll be seeing you on September the first then?" she asked.
"Yes, for sure." He smiled a genuine smile.
"Good," She nodded and smiled back. "Bye then."
"Bye."

He couldn't stop smiling all the way home.
"What's wrong with you boy." His father snarled.
"Nothing."
"Nothing what?"
"Nothing sir."
"So, why are you smiling then?"
"Ah-" he stuttered.
"Smiling is a sign of weakness boy! So is stuttering!" his father hit him over the head.
"Sorry sir."
"Yes, well you better be."
"Sir,"
"Yes?"
"Why is it wrong to talk to muggle borns?"
"Why? Why?" his temper was rising fast.
He tried to look as innocent as he could.
"Because they're scum, they are lower than pure bloods, and what are we son?"
"Pure bloods, sir."
"That's right, so don't even think about touching one."
"No sir."
"Good. You'll do me proud wont you son? You'll do our master proud when he returns wont you?"
Draco didn't say any thing.
"Wont you!"
"Yes sir."
They arrived home and his mother came out to greet them. But as his mother was about to hug her son his father snarled and yelled for his mother to get back inside.
"Yes."
Draco looked at his mother sympathetically and smiled. His mother smiled back.
'God, I wish I had a loving family like Hermione's.'
