A/n: I do not own the Zelda characters, they belong to Nintendo. This is a re-write of something that I had written several years ago.
Prologue:
"What are you going to do now Link?" a voice hissed, "no one can save you now."
Link looked around for his opponent, "Damn," He thought, "He made himself invisible." A sharp blow caught him in the side, shoving him into the marble wall. He heard a bone in his shoulder snap. Blood ran down his temple and bright colored dots danced in front if his eyes. He couldn't take another hit of that caliber.
He struggled to his feet. "Show yourself!" He answered gritting his teeth ignoring the excruciating pain in his shoulder and head. Trying to keep his breathing steady, he felt around for his sword and used it to pull himself to his feet.
The green faced man with red hair laughed as he appeared, "That pretty little maid can't save you now. It will be a pleasure to kill you!" the room grew dark as he gathered a ball of dark energy around him.
Link leaned on his sword for balance and fought the waves of nausea that seized him as he stood looking for the man. He prayed the Farore, the goddess of Courage, to give him strength.
"What are you waiting for?" A little ball of light called from his left side, "Attack him!" He raised his bow hesitantly trying to aim. It wavered back and forth. Little spots danced in front of his eyes. He couldn't see. Releasing the arrow, it bounced harmlessly off the opposite wall.
"Try again," the fairy urged.
Another blast hit him sending him sprawling like a news paper in the wind, 'I don't know how much more of this I can take,' He thought miserably as he tried to hoist himself up. Link felt around in his tunic for one of his fairies. None he was out. His knees buckled and he fell on to the cool stone floor.
The fairy at his side called to him to get up. He couldn't get up he didn't have the strength. The floor felt so good to his feverish head. All he wanted to do was sleep. It was all over. He had failed; Hyrule would fall to the Gerudo King.
"I'm sorry Zelda, I failed" he thought miserably as sleep overtook him. "You picked the wrong person to save Hyrule. Besides, I never wanted to do this anyway."
Everything went black..
Somewhere, one watched on, worried about what the future held. With the last of their strength they transported Link to place where he would be safe. Where? They did not know.
Another tossed and turned in their bed, fighting away the nightmares that haunted them every night.
