One-shot deal inspired by "The Crow" comics by J. O'Barr and Pat Benatar's song, "Suffer the Little Children."

Dedicated to one of my best friends, Sam.

The man in blue with a starred badge

Stands above a martyr, an innocent

Eyes turned to the black night

A golden band clutched to her chest

Mouth agape in a concave scream

Her pain, fear, sadness unknown

Black smudges across her brow

A kiss from the dark angel

Bright flashes of blue and red

Illuminating the second promise

The clown man made to her

Words heard only in the silent's ears:

"All things will be fair..."

She wished and dreamed

"...and there will be wonderful surprises."

Her cries were answered

His own eyes scan the letter once more

"There is a little girl"

A saint in disguise

"Who lives on Forrest St."

Condemned to hell

"It'll break your heart to see her there"

Damn right

The man in blue crumples the paper

And throws it into the street

With the hope that

Her suffering was brief

With the prayer that

She returned home safely

He is heard

The two are waiting for

The final promise to be kept

"See you in Heaven, Doll"

Damn right

"It's forever now"
