Chapter one-
Chihiro ran down to the dock, ducking under the over grown willow tree as she arrived. The wood sounded hallow under her feet, the sound of the river drowning out any other sound as she came to a stop at the end of the dock. Like every other day after school, she had run to the dock as quick as she could, and stood at the tip of the old dock calling out his name in the silent hope he would one day hear her..
"Haku!.....Haku!.....Haku!"
---/flash back/---
" Where are you going Chihiro?"
Sasha, one of her 'friends' would demand.
"You always run off after school in such a big hurry! Stay and play with us."
Sneering in amusement.
"Stay and play with us" or "Why don't you date anyone?" or even "Your such a strange little girl Chihiro"
And without Chihiro's answer they would laugh together, then toddle off giggling. The typical bunch of high school girls, heading to the smoothie house because any other food in their system would simply make them 'fat'.

"Haku!...Haku!..."
It was no use what so ever. 6 years she had tried the same thing over and over again and never had he heard her. She rubbed her eyes tiredly and sat at the edge of the dock, placing her socks and shoes to the side so that her bare feet could touch the glassy water. Her bright brown eyes stared off into the distance intently, watching both the water and the sky for any signs of Haku.
"You said I could see you again Haku..."
It wasn't much use telling her self that though, because it would be up to Haku to show up. Time went by so much slower in the spirit world...for all she knew, Haku might think that the same amount of time went by in the real world and not bother to go see her. She sighed. It confused her to think about time relations, so instead she just stared at her reflection in the water, watching it ripple as both her feet slipped into the water again. Abruptly she fell back against the dock with a somewhat loud thunk, lying against the wood and soaking up the sun while daydreaming of Haku.
"Haku....where are you?"
She let the sun reach about 5'30 before putting her shoes and socks back on. Her feet had dried by then and she could walk back home. She picked up her pink hello kitty book bag, and all her schoolwork, making sure not to leave anything behind. She was too lazy to do it all, even though she knew she should. Her mother would throw a fit if she knew she still hadn't completed 2 days worth of reading and paper work.
" Your 16th birthday is tomorrow!" she would say. Or "Your so irresponsible!" or even " Why can't you grow up Chihiro?"
And of course, Chihiro would get herself in trouble for making faces as she mimicked her mother. Her house was just a 15-minute walk through the abandoned edge of town from the dock. It was a small hidden dock used mostly for fishing, and the edge of town was long forgotten, with ghost buildings tumbling on top of each other, the dock a part of it that was long forgotten. She had actually gone fishing at the dock a few times on the weekends she wasn't doing anything, and the town well.it was a little scary and a tad strange, but it was the quickest way home, and she of all people didn't mind strange.
