Author's notes:

Botan: Here's another fic from the Mirai time line. See last time Bulma was comforting you. In this one you're comforting her.

Mirai: So basically you're just reusing your story.

Botan: No.

Mirai: Who'd you get to play chibi me?

Botan: Gary Coleman, of course.

Mirai: *blink*

Botan: Don't worry he's perfect for the part.

Disclaimer: MIRAI, CAN I BORROW YOUR TIME MACHINE? Oh, it never would have worked anyway. I don't own DBZ.

Trunks squished the carpet between his toes as he walked down the hallway. "Nothin's better than this fluffy rug stuff!" He announced to himself. To get a better feel for his wonder substance, he fell backwards onto the upstairs hallway. As he lay there, soaking up his surroundings, Trunks heard muffled sounds coming from the far bedroom.

"Huh? I wonder what Kaasan could be doing that could make that much noise. She must be playin' some game!" Then Trunks's eyes widened at his realization. "It sounds like Kaasan's cryin'!"

Trunks bounded up gracefully, then quietly padded over to his mother's door and pushed it forward with his finger. "Kaasan?" he asked uncertainly.

"Oh, Trunks." Bulma stopped to wipe the tears from her eyes.

"What's wrong Kaasan?" I don't like seein' you cry," Trunks said as he made his way to the bed where Bulma was sitting.

"Trunks, you know how grandpa and grandma went shopping today?" An affirmative nod from her son pushed Bulma on. "Well...they won't be coming back for a long time." She was ashamed that she wasn't strong enough to tell Trunks. But how do you tell a six year old his grandparents were dead?

"When will they coming back?" Her young son huffed.

"Trunks," Her sobs deepened. " T-the ji...the store where they were shopping was," Trunks made out the rest through heavy tears. "Was," sob "attacked by" more sobbing "the jinzouningen."

The young boy's eyes wandered away from his kaasan momentarily. Had she cried this much when Tousan died?

"I'm just sorry you had to grow up like this. If only Son-kun were still here."

Trunks couldn't count how many times he had heard that mantra. His kaasan hang on to it so much. "Gohan-san will beat the jinzouningen, ne? Then we won't ever have to worry about anything. We'll be all happy!" Then, Trunks stopped and thought. His grandparents were dead, he would never see them again. Tears suddenly flowed to his eyes. He quickly wiped them away. "I have to be strong for kaasan! I'm the man of the house!" he encouraged himself.

"I don't think I could I could ever be happy again if anything happened to you Trunks-chan. You're what keeps me going."

"Un, Kaasan! You don't have to worry about me. I'll protect both of us! Maybe Gohan-san will teach me somethin'.."

"Don't get any ideas about fighting the jinzouningen!" Bulma said a little too quickly. She was always fearing he would do such a thing. Trunks was his father's son, after all.

"Gomen, Kaasan...I just want to protect you...I love you." Trunks choked out as he shuffled his feat.

Bulma's eyes softened. "I love you too Trunks-chan. Now, come up on my bed and I'll read you a story."

"Hai, hai Kaasan!" Trunks yelled as he jumped on the bed and snuggled under the blankets with his mother.
