A/N: This is set in the Star Trek world that Paramount owns, but not having anything to do with Starfleet or the Federation. It's just a double drabble I came up with as the snow comes down.

SNOW DAYS

Sally muttered as she put her warmest coat on. "It's not fair, Mom. In history we learned that they used to cancel school for whole days when it snowed."

Her mother handed her the horrible red hat that Grandma had made her. She'd lost the battle over the hat last week, and it was warm, but she wasn't about to admit that. Scowling for effect as she pulled it over her ears, she heard her mother's reply. "They also had to breathe polluted air, and some children had to work. Not everyone was lucky enough to get an education back then. Even those who went to school were often taught the wrong things. They didn't even know other sentient beings existed!"

The "bus," as the low-flying shuttle was called by tradition, would soon arrive at the landing pad. It was a two or three minute walk, so Sally had to hurry over to meet Lianna next door. Mrs. Halof, who piloted the bus, would be mad if they were late.

"Easy for Mom to say," she sighed as she trudged over to Lianna's porch. "She probably went to school in the Middle Ages. Maybe even before snow days were invented!"
