Finished Business
By: Karmyn
Summary: Just taking care of some unfinished business, postscript to Reflections 2.
Note: A few people commented on the ending to Reflections 2 and general consensus seemed to
be that it needed more. After thinking about it, I agreed. The dream sequence was something I
came up with at the last minute because I totally forgot where I was going with the story.
Normally I have very little trouble writing male POV, but Steed proved difficult.
This will be my last Avengers story.
"You and I have some unfinished business," Steed said to Emma. Then he kissed her and they
made their way upstairs.
Afterwards, Emma asked, "What happened in Russia?"Perhaps not the best subject for
post lovemaking conversation, but she was curious as to what had happened.
"Ambush," Steed answered. "I was rescued just in time. Too much unfinished business to
take care of." Then he pulled her closer and kissed her and soon they were reacquainting
themselves with each other again.
Life returned to normal, or at least to what had been normal before Emma had left.
Although Emma decided not to help Steed on his cases officially, she did, on occasion, help him
by using her knowledge of science and logic and such. They were often seen out dining or
attending parties. Their friends were very happy with this turn of events for all agreed that both
were much happier together. It wasn't long before people noticed that Emma rarely spent nights
at her own flat. A few months later Emma was seen wearing a lovely diamond ring.
The wedding was a quiet affair, just a few friends and family. Emma didn't want the
hassle of a large wedding again and Steed agreed with her. Although he had never been married
before, he didn't want a large wedding, either. There were times during the planning of the
wedding that he would stop and wonder just how his life had come to this. Five years ago he
would never have considered committing to one woman, much less marriage. Then he avoided
running over a cat and met Emma. Funny how little things can change our lives so much, he
often thought.
They honeymooned in the Swiss Alps. They spent a week there and it wasn't until the day
they left that they noticed what a great view the cabin had in the back. They were too busy trying
out the bed. They continued this at home and six months later Emma noticed that she didn't feel
well in the mornings. Nine months later, after 18 hours of labor and Emma threatening parts of
Steed's anatomy, William John Steed was born. He had his father's dark curls and his mother's
eyes and both agreed he was the most lovely child they had ever seen. Then Emma kissed her
husband and assured him that his anatomy was safe. After all, one day William should have a
little brother or sister.
And so, Steed realized, this was what he had survived for. This was the unfinished
business he had. He had his Emma, and now a son. The waiting and suffering he had endured
only made him appreciate it more.
The End!
Author's Note Again: And so ends my brief foray into Avengers fic. It was an interesting ride
while it lasted. I'm moving on to another fandom.
