Disclaimer: I'm borrowing Roxton and Marguerite that's all I swear!
Notes: After I saw this episode I felt there could have been more said and I don't know if you all felt that way.
A few days later after his wild west adventure, Roxton kept thinking to himself about the conversation he had with Maylene about her heart being broken.
"You know sometimes Marguerite is afraid of me just as you are. And it makes me think maybe that someone once broke her heart the same way yours been broken. Unless, she's not still ready to risk it happening again."
"Did someone ever break your heart?" Maylene asked.
Smiling, Roxton replied, "I never met the woman that could break my heart. Till I met Marguerite."
After saying that Roxton knew or guessed why the dark-haired heiress kept pushing away.
You think being trapped on this God forsaken place she should know who I am, he thought bitterly. Unless, that's how it all started with the others and then they decided to leave. His heart ached for her. For the first time in his life he never felt anything like this before. It seemed to the great hunter that his attraction towards Marguerite was growing everyday. After all this Lord never fell in love before. He didn't know the experience or how painful love can be.
Marguerite noticed the handsome hunter had become quite occupied lately after the whole noose ordeal. She had to admit she was being cynical after Roxton told everyone what happened. He was right when he asked if she was jealous. I mean if this Maylene looks like me I wonder what happened between them? No! Don't think that, of course, something must have happened. Roxton is a man like no other so why should I care? Marguerite thought. I do care because he's different and sweet and funny. But I cannot allow us to go further in our friendship, I mean, what if he decides to leave me? What would I do then? What if I leave him for his own good? He's too good for me and I don't deserve him. Grr. why does love have to hurt so much?
John made up his mind. He was going to talk to his beloved and try to assure her she has nothing to fear.
He found her out in the Great Room reading. "Marguerite, can I have a word with you, please," he said gently. She looked up right away and noticed how soft, gentle, his eyes were. There was a mix of love and fear in them and she could only guess what this would be about. Sighing, she replied, "Why not? This story is starting to become a bore?"
As soon as she got up, Roxton pulled her into a deep embrace and kissed her hard and long on the mouth. She didn't even try to pull away. When he moved back the heiress was completely breathless. He stared into her gray eyes and knew this was the right thing to do.
"Marguerite I want you to know that ever since I first met you, I admired everything about you. I didn't know if you know this but I felt a connection at Challenger's study. At first it scared me because I never felt this way before. All my life I wanted a woman just like you. Not only are you beautiful but also smart, unique, funny, and honest." Tears started to form in her eyes as she listened to his deep voice.
"I know that you probably had been hurt in the past and you're not risking for it to happen again, but know this please. I'm different and I'm sure you know that and the fact that I want to spend the rest of my life by your side forever always. I love you so much Marguerite," Roxton said softly, losing the battle as tears threatened to fall from his face, "I love you too much for you to get hurt."
He stopped just long enough to see her reaction. Marguerite stared at the hunter as she took in everything he said. A small smile formed on her face and in her heart she believed everything he said and knew it was all true. She whispered, "I love you too, Lord Roxton." She kissed him and it felt like a dream come true.
