Summary: When Ginny awakes in the den of the basilisk she is greeted by a familiar face.
Rating: PG, no, NOTHING happens!
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry and Ginny and anything that happens here. They belong to JK Rowling and whoever did the movies but this fits right in and I hope its okay.
She awoke to the sound of trickling water. Ginny looked as if she had just awoken from a long slumber and looked around in a dazed manner. Her eyes snapped instantly into focus as she saw Harry next to her, clutching his arm.
The boy gave her a brave smile, but in his eyes she saw the fear within that he might die. She tried to recall what just happened, but could not, so jumbled was her brain. She could think only of those terrible yellow eyes, glowing malevolently at her from the distance.
Quietly, "You're hurt."
He winced and replied softly, "It is nothing."
Gently, she reached out to move his hand from his forearm, only to recoil at the sight of the festering wound. Ginny looked up in alarm and Harry's calm gaze confirmed her worst fears.
But through the terror, his voice cut straight to her soul, warming it in some inexplicable way, "You must go. Ron is at the end of the tunnel waiting for you," His voice dropped to a hoarse whisper, "Please."
Ginny looked down the long tunnel, terrified that she might have to go on alone. Her hands clutched and wrung her skirt, torn between the terrible decision that she would have to make. Harry had saved her from whatever terrible fate might have existed beyond, but at the cost of his own life.
Her mind raced, back to all the small kindnesses he had bestowed upon her in her first year at Hogwarts. At the time, she thought it was because she was Ron's sister. But now, the insults of the Slytherins paled against the bravery which Harry displayed in defending her. The bravery that made him sacrifice his life for hers. Her mind recalled his words to her that day. "Whatever happens, we stick together."
Ginny fought back tears, and was suddenly jolted out of her thoughts by Harry collapsing onto the floor.
And in that instant, she made her decision. Cautiously, she reached out and held his hand in hers. Harry looked up in surprise, to which Ginny responded with a loving smile.
"Whatever happens, we stick together."
