For a long time the Kings and Queens of France have cherished the
crown
jewels, they were never stolen but it had been attempted many, many times.
On December 23, 1763 an unknown person tried to steal the crown jewels. No
one was even the slightest bit concerned about this because it happened all the time, but nothing could prepare them for what was going to happen on Christmas Day.
On Christmas day 1763 the King and Queen of France had their annual
Christmas party, all societies finest were there. Including Jacques Deplont
Duke of Lyons, who is next in line to the throne. " Good Day your Majesty"
said the Duke.
"Thank-you and good day to you." The Duke bowed and kept mingling his way around the crowd waiting for a disturbance. A few miniutes later someone dropped their glass and everyone rushed over to help clean up, everyone accept the Duke. He knew that this was the disterbance he had been looking for and made his way queitly up the stairs headed for the jewel room. As he found the Jewel room he picked
the lock with a lock pick he had brought along in his pocket and crept in. Little did he know that a servant named Pierre Frondu was listening to him. "Ah the crown jewels they're mine now! But where to hid them?" He said to himself. " The Eiffel Tower at the very top oh that is the perfect plan. Pierre gasped after hearing every word as he was cleaning the next room thought he must tell the King who stole his jewels. The Duke raced down the hall and jumped out the window and on to the terrace were a horse was there for him he road of into the distance on his white stallon and Pierre went back to cleaning.
The next morning Pierre woke anticipating his talk with the king. When he got into the streets on his way to the castle he could tell that there was a buzz in Paris about what happened to the jewels. When he arrived at the castle Pierre told the King that he saw the Duke of Lyons steel the jewels last night. The King was disgusted that he would even think of blaming The Duke for such a crime. " Guards take him to jail." He roared."No you can't do this he really stole them you have to belive me" Pierre screamed back at him. After a miniute Pierre gave up strugging and was dragged to jail. In the middle of the night Pierre's best friend Jean Beaux came to the prison cell to bust him out with a sword to pick the lock. After a few tries it worked and Pierre was free. After thanking his friend and borowing his sword Pierre was off to the Eiffel Tower. He ran to the Eiffel Tower as fast as he could. When he got there he stared to climb, when he reached the top it was silent and there was nothing in sight Pierre thought that the Duke was already gone, until suddenly the Duke jumped out from
behind a pole with the crown jewels in one hand and a sword in the other. "So you want to be a hero eh, well your going to have to get me first." Said the Duke snikering. The Duke put down the crown jewels and Pierre drew his sword. Clang cling, clang cling they battled for almost ten minutes before the Duke a master swordsman cut Pierre's leg. Pierre limbing ran at the Duke and knocked him of the side of the tower and down into the river. As the Duke fell he screamed back at Pierre "I'll get you with revege Pierre." Pierre then grabed the jewels and climbed back down the tower.
The next day the Kings men found the body of Jacques Deplont
Duke of Lyons in the river. As soon as the King heard this he personaly went to Pierres home and asked him if he knew anything about it. Pierre then told the whole story to the King and the King sighed and said: "I belive you and if there is anything you want I will have it done." "Well" Pierre said "there is one thing"
