Something In Your Voice

A Rex and Mimi story

Chapter One ~ First Meeting

He sat on his bed thinking about what lay ahead of him. He had just met his father and was now living in this huge mansion. He stared around the room he was in. It was spacious. Long, beautiful curatins hung from the windows. He had his own bathroom, his own bed ... his own room. Ever since he came to town, he never thought he could be living here. But two weeks had passed, and he loved this life. He craved it. He loved the power of his name and the power he had.

Rex DiMera rose himself out of his large bed and trudged over to the window. The carpet was soft under his bare feet as he stared out. Ever since he had arrived in Salem, he was afraid of going out in public. His sister wasn't, that's for sure. Cassie loved being the center of attention. Rex smiled to himself as he thought about Cassie.

He sighed, found a pair of jeans in his dresser, and pulled them up his legs. He found a simple shirt and slipped it over his head. And with that, he stepped through the doorway and walked down the long and winding staircase.

"Good morning, Son," said a familar voice as Rex walked into the kitchen.

"Morning, Dad," he replied. He walked over to the stove and filled his plate with scrambled eggs and bacon. As he sat down and was eating, he began speaking. "I'm going into town today. I'm tired of sitting around and doing nothing."

"That's good, Rex. Just be careful of certain people," Tony warned.

"Like whom?" asked Rex in responce. But he didn't get an answer as the telephone began to ring and Tony had to take the call. Rex didn't bother waiting as he finished up his breakfast and headed downtown.

The weather was beautiful. It was about seventy degress and the sun beat down on his neck. Unusual for Autumn, but he wasn't complaining. He looked around and took in the sights. He seemed to laugh as his eyes layed upon Cassie, talking to some guy. He continued walking.

"Belle?" Rex asked as he saw a girl with blonde hair looking into a window. Rex had met Belle when he met his mother. She was small and beautiful, just like Marlena.

"Well, hey half-brother!" she said as she smiled, happy to see him. "What are you up to?"

"Oh, nothing really. Just decided to get out of the house. I..." he was interrupted by a voice.

"Belle! Oh my God! You have to check out this dress it's...." a young woman came running who was obviously very excited about something, but stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Rex.

"....gorgeous." She finished her sentence and stared.

Belle chuckled and said, "Mimi, this is Rex, my half-brother. Rex, this is my best friend, Mimi."

Rex smiled at her and laughed a little. Her eyes were large as she continued to stare.

He looked into her eyes and then held her hand in his and said, "Nice to meet you, Mimi."

They continued to shake hands and stare. Finally, Mimi was able to speak.

"You too......Rex."

They didn't let go of eachother's hands as Rex stared down at her and grinned. They stayed there for what seemed like forever until finally they were interrupted by a very loud 'AHEM.'

For the first time in a long time, Mimi laughed.
