A/N: I know that Elrond, and probably Thranduil as well, set sail for the West a long time before Eldarion was born, but, for the sake of the story, pretend they've come back to visit their children. Oh and Eldarion is Aragorn's son.
"Tell me a story, Ada!" Eldarion demanded. Elessar sighed.
"Not tonight, Eldarion. It's late."
"Please?" Eldarion begged. They pair were both suddenly distracted by a commotion outside.
In the courtyard beneath Eldarion's window, Elrond was walking a donkey which had tried to escape back to the stables, when he ran into Thranduil. Literally. Brushing himself off, Thranduil stood up and smiled at the donkey.
"Elrond!" he greeted, patting the donkey on the head. "You haven't changed a bit!"
Elrond smiled cheerfully back.
"Ah Thranduil, it's nice to see you too." He looked pointedly at Thranduil's (rather large) stomach. "And I see you are with child again!"
Thranduil growled, knowing that, once again, the half-elven lord had outwitted him with insults. Elrond laughed lightly and walked away.
Eldarion looked quizzically up at Elessar.
"Ada, why don't Thranduil and Lord Elrond like each other?"
Elessar sat down on Eldarion's bed and smiled at the child.
"Well, ion nîn, it all started a long, long time ago….."
'It was in the last age, before the war of the ring, and, as you know, I was living in Rivendell with Lord Elrond. We were….close….friends. Much like Legolas and Gimli."
Eldarion's face screwed up in disgust.
"You let Elrond do that to you?!"
"Well, we were very much in love…" Elessar trailed off. He made a mental note to find out what exactly Legolas had taught his son when he had decided to give him a lesson on relationships. Elessar continued.
"I adored Elrond and he, understandably, adored me back. But one fateful day our blissful existence was shattered. We were paid a visit by Gandalf, who informed us that Sauron had released Gollum, and that I must go and capture him at once. No matter how much I begged, no matter how much I threatened, how much I bribed him, he wouldn't budge. Even Elrond's glare wouldn't stop him from making me leave. And so I was forced to leave my beloved and go out into the wilderness.
'Oh, Eldarion, it was terrible! Not only was I separated from my love, but I was forced to track that disgusting mutated hobbit sort of thing through Eru knows what for years and years! When I finally caught up with him, I then had to drag him along to Mirkwood, of all places! So when I finally got back to Rivendell, I was an emotional mess. It took many more years of Elrond's love to heal me to a state normalcy. And then, when Elrond learned that Gollum had escaped, and my long and painful absence was for nothing…well lets just say Elrond was not happy. And he vowed to hate Thranduil for the rest of eternity. All for me…."
Elessar spent a few moments basking in the glory and love of his sweet Peredhil lover. He was drawn out of his reverie by the insistent tugging on his sleeve.
"But Ada," Eldarion asked. "Why does Thranduil hate lord Elrond?"
"Because he's a drunken Sindar virgin. 'Night Eldarion."
"Goodnight Ada."
Ada-father
Ion nîn- my son
Peredhil-Half-elven. Generally refers to Elros and Elrond.
P.s. Does anyone know why on fanfic.net on the character lists there is an Arwen U and an Arwen B? Is there a difference? And how do you say "granfather" and "mum" in elvish?
