The Blues Family Reunion.
I stared out the bus window as it drove through down town. Today was like every other day. I'd ride the bus until the end of the line and then find someplace warm to sleep. Id been way down on my luck these past few years, and I was only 15. See my mother passed away a few moths back, and my father, the well know musician Jake Blues had gone on a year before. Leaving me homeless with nowhere to go. Id heard of my Blood Uncle Elwood, but was never able to find him. So here I am, young homeless, and hungry. As the driver calls out last stop I sigh and climb off the bus. Oddly enough I've ended up in front of a restaurant with a man playing a song on his harp dead in front of it. I sighed and sat down on the curb and listen to the music pouring into my ears and on through to my soul. I'd always been a fan of the blues, since Id spent most of my time singing em'. Finally I couldn't take my stomachs yelling and decided to grab a burger with the little money I had left. I walked into this quaint little restaurant and sat down on a stool in front of the counter. A tall thin man dressed like he was in the FBI was sitting down a ways just drinking a glass of water and staring off into space. I rummaged through my pocket and pulled out 5 dollars. A woman came and took my order. When I went to hand her the money she held up her hand. "It's on the house honey." She smiled at me and walked away. I sighed and buried my head in my arms. I was almost asleep when someone tapped me on the shoulder. It was the FBI man. "Your foods getting cold." He gestured towards a large cheeseburger and a plate of fries, with a coke. This wasn't what I ordered though. I looked up at the waitress and she just smiled and nodded at me. I smiled politely and nodded back, then I turned to the FBI man. "Thanks," I stated, " You can have some of my fries if you want." I slid the plate in between us. He smiled and chuckled a bit, " No thanks kiddo, I'm more of a dry white toast kinda guy." The waitress laughed at him and hit him lightly with her towel. "Oh, Elwood." She laughed and went back into the kitchen. Suddenly I had an obvious case of Déjà vu. I saw my mother talking to man who was dressed like this and he was telling her about my father and they talked for a while and then he was gone. Suddenly my head snapped up and I dropped my food to the plate. "You're Elwood?" I stated loudly. "Yes, that's me." He replied giving me an awkward look. I quickly regained my composure and stared at him. I smiled lightly and said, " You're Elwood Blues right?" "Again yes." "That would make you my uncle." I said in a sort of monotonous tone. Suddenly he realized who I was and he stood up quickly and pulled me into a hug. "Oh god, Emily, Emily I've been looking for you for so long, I've searched every part of Chicago and lower Wisconsin and I thought I'd lost you to." "What do you mean lost me to?" "I promised your mother if anything ever happened to her, I'd take care of you. When I found out what had happened, I came to the house but you were gone, I searched high and low, knowing you were my last tie to Jake, I couldn't bare it, I just gave up hope. Where have you been though? How have you survived?"
I told Elwood all about my living on buses and in alleyways and he told me I'd come live with him. I didn't want to object so I just went along with him. He told his Friends who owned the burger joint goodbye and we were off, in what he called the Blues Mobile.
