Title: Alive

Summary: Sam's thoughts as he saves Frodo near the end of TTT (movie
version) as the wraith is trying to take the ring from him in Osgiliath.
"Alive"
I watch him die.
His heart doesn't stop,
But there's nothing in his eyes.
He drifts slowly away
Into his nothingness,
Not aware that his legs are even moving.
He walks closer to it with each step.
He knows not what he does.
The ring has killed his insides.
He is a hollow form
Moving by another's will,
Unable to know or control his footsteps.
Death's beast moves toward him
As he willingly accepts its coldness.
While my heart is racing,
He feels almost nothing.
His body is numb.
His mind is not his own.
I race toward him
Hoping to put fire back in his heart
Even if it means extinguishing my own.
My head pounds
As it seems to take forever to reach him.
Now we are both steps away
From the end.
I tackle him down some stairs
And miraculously bring him back to life,
But there is still a demon's shadow in his eyes.
I see him lost, screaming inside,
And the darkness that still holds him
Brings a tear to my eye.
Unknowingly, he brings his sword to my throat.
I feel it pressing against my skin
And for the first time in the whole of my life
I am truly terrified.
But I can not give up.
I love him too much to do so.
"It's me. It's your Sam. Don't you know your Sam?"
And I see him come Alive.
