Chapter Ten: "One Hell of an Ordeal"

(Ivy's P.O.V.)

"No... it can't be-Casey?"

"Ivy? Yo! Thought I'd be seein' you here, girl!" she joked, laughing in a good-natured way and flipping her hair backward. I'm afraid all I could do a that moment was gawk.

"What are you-OOMPH!!" was about all I got out before I was tackle-glomped at such high velocity that, if she hadn't scooped me up and spun me around three times, we would have both gone crashing to the floor. I felt a slight wave of nausea push up against my insides. I always hated Roller Coasters, and Casey was their distant relative.

Putting me back down on the ground with a little more force than necessary, the look of buoyant ease on her face sank away as she caught sight of something behind me. I instantly realized she must be staring at the bedridden forms of Will and Ebon.

"Ivy... chicca, what happened here?"

I sighed. "It's a long story Casey..."

"I've got time."

We settled on the bed next to Ebon's, and in two seconds I was spilling my guts, pouring out the whole lamentable tale, from the beginning when we simply couldn't find Kennie, to the battle between Ebon and Will to now. By the time I finished, I was flustered and on the brink of tears. I always felt comfortable around Casey, though, and I trusted that she wouldn't get awkward at my state or push away.

I was right. She wrapped me in a consoling hug "Jeez girl, you've had one hell of an ordeal. 'sokay, it'll be alright. Eby's pulled through worse n' this before, thanks to yours truly." She said, laughing.

I couldn't help but laugh too. It felt good to be able to talk to a girl again. There was no doubt whatsoever that Ebon was my best friend in the world, but the relief of being able to talk to someone who could relate to me in these times was overwhelming.

"Casey... I feel so utterly stupid, I completely forgot to ask," I began, turning towards her. "How in the world did YOU get here?"

She blinked for a second, then burst out laughing. "Oh YEAH! Well, it started like this. here I am, walkin' down to my camp thing, I'm all stoked cuz I'm gonna be on my own for a month, and who should sneak up behind me but Witch Woman and zap me here after sayin' cryptic stuff about choices and cards and games. I s'pose around the same thing happened to you guys?"

I was going to say, "Yeah, pretty much", but before I could, my peripheral vision caught sight of movement in Ebon's bed.

"Ugh..." His forehead furrowed beneath the bandages wrapped securely around the gash on his head. Cracking an eye open for about a second, then hissing at the light, Ebon shifted to face me and Casey. "Whuzzah...?"

"Heeey little cous," said Casey in a somewhat softer tone. "How's it, bro?"

"What the fu... aw hell, dreaming." He muttered half-heartedly. He tried to reach his face with his hand, probably to pinch his cheek, but he hissed again and let it fall limply back to the bed. "What the hell... not supposed to be able to feel pain in dreams..." he groaned.

"You're not dreaming, Ebon! Casey really is here, she got abducted too... are you feeling better? Do you need your bandages changed?"

"Unnn..." Ebon took a brave stab at sitting up, made it half way, then slouched against the wall and settled for a lean. "Issat you, Ivy?" he asked groggily, blinking.

"Yeah, it's me." I answered, checking his bandages.

"And that's..." he blinked at Casey's grin. "Holy shit... it really IS you... how the heck...?"

"Don't ask me, cous. Hey man, you got yourself into a mess, eh?" Casey clapped him on the shoulder, and Ebon did what I can only describe as a puppy yelp. "Ahh, sorry dude!" Casey apologized hastily, removing her hand and grinning sheepishly.

"... This just gets weirder and weir--" Ebon began, but cut himself off suddenly, eyes going wide. He was suddenly very alert, and snapped his head towards me, wincing sharply as he did. "Ivy, where's Will? Is he okay? Is he here?"

"Shhh, shhh..." I coaxed, pushing him back down into the bed, although his eyes still remained large. "Yes, he's alright. He's right over there, resting."

Ebon closed his eyes, but before he did I caught a flash of his two strongest emotions: remorse and relief. "Thank God..."

Casey had gone over to inspect Will. She was leaning close to his face and picking at the red scales that were striped on his jawbone when his eyes snapped wide open, much as Ebon's had.

"HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!" He shouted, kicking out and sending a tray of medical supplies flying. I jumped a good two feet in the air, ripping one of Ebon's arm bandages off with a sharp tearing sound, and both he and Will hissed in pain, Ebon from the bandage yank, and Will from the tray-kicking. Both groaned in unison also, and flumped weakly on their beds.

"Daaang man, I'm sorry!!" Casey groaned, looking apprehensive. "Errr... hi? I'm Casey, Eby-chan's cousin."

Ebon shouted suddenly "CASEY!!!"

Will, who had been groaning in pain, stopped making noise altogether. Then, after a few seconds, there was a snort of laughter from the other bed.

Ebon groaned. I couldn't help but chuckle though. He'd never told me he had a nickname!

"Hey guys, I think I'm gonna head off to my own quarters for the night, eh? I seem to be causin' a lotta havoc here" she said with a peace sign. "Hey cous, come see me tomorrow if you feel up to it, kay? I'm stayin in the room across and to the left of this place. See ya!"

And with that, she strolled out, whistling something like "Just Whistle While You Work."
