"You don't know a thing about me!" Lily laughed, twirling a strand of her curly hair around her finger. James Potter had cornered her right after her Charms class and was asking her out.

"You don't know when my birthday is, what my favorite color is, or even what my lucky number is!" Lily shouted in exasperation. There was a dark red flush on James's cheeks.

"I know what your lucky number is." James said quietly yet evenly. Lily chortled at his answer.

"James, you can't possibly know what my lucky number is! I've never told anyone and it isn't those stupid common ones like 3 or 7 or 13!" With that, Lily flounced away, her bright red hair bobbing up and down in the air as she did so. James stared at her retreating back. The flowers he held in his hands seemed to wilt.

Lily felt the tears burning in her eyes as she walked away. She liked him, she really did! She just wasn't ready for this kind of thing and highly doubted she ever would be. James was the exact opposite of her idea of an ideal boyfriend. She imagined her beau to be kind, caring, smart, with red hair like hers and kind chocolate eyes that glittered with mirth. Instead James had the potential to be smart, not that he ever actually did the required homework. Also, he was anything but caring and was possibly the most pompous ass she could ever meet. The only thing that could possibly match him with her description of a boyfriend was the eyes. The melted chocolate eyes…

Lily chuckled to herself, making the tears stop and stalked to the Great Hall for some food.

James Potter asked her out no longer and it had been several long months. Part of Lily was glad and another part was disappointed.

But it was one morning that changed everything. It was morning (and her birthday too!) and she was quite rudely aroused by a hooting owl at the window.

"Hoo, hoo!" The owl cooed and clawed at her window. Lily groaned and buried her frazzled hair under her pillow.

"WHOO, WHOO!" The owl shrieked louder and louder. Lily stumbled to the window, her eyes half shut with sleep and opened the window. A small, brown, energetic owl flew in excitedly, dropped a letter on her head, and zoomed out.

"What's this?" Lily mumbled, rubbing her eyes. The envelope was pale lavender, her second favorite color. Must have been a coincidence, how funny. She tore it open and opened the parchment, eyes wide open with shock. The parchment was a yellow color, not the normal, sick parchment yellow color but the lovely sunshine-and-gold color. Yellow was her favorite color! Lily was no longer sure if this was a coincidence or not.

Scrawled in messy handwriting was written:

9147

Lily's lucky number.

On Lily's birthday.

Written on parchment of her favorite color.
