Sweetness
She looked up at her lab partner with a look of such intense feeling in her deep blue eyes, her knees felt weak at his closeness and she felt dizzy as she inhaled his smell. She was memorizing the way he bit his lip as he thought and the way his dark brown eyes fell into his large doe eyes.
Oh god those eyes, so hurt so innocent, they made her want to cry and hug him and …lost of other things. Their deepness dragged her in and filled her with warming thoughts of life with him, made her chest expand.
Her breath quickened as his hand lightly grazed hers as he looked for his eraser without looking away from the paper. Her face got hot and the dizziness increased, she hadn't had feelings like this so intense for anyone before. Sure she'd liked people before felt one or two of the symptoms but never this many this much. There was no way she'd be able to concentrate on the assignment thou she was praising it.
Gordie always worked with Chris and she'd be left all alone. None of her friends were in this class. She never got anything done because all her thoughts drifted to Gordie and the way his fingers taped the desk repeatedly if he got stuck or the way he would lean on his hand.
He leaned over her to check the readings on something, she had set it up and knew what it was but the name failed to come to her. The smell of him flooded her and her eyes closed happily at the sweetness of his smell.
If she had thought it bad before it must have intensified a zillion times when he spoke. Not to her no to the whatever it was, the reading.
"7 point 89"
Oh sweet Jesus.
His voice was just deep enough and it's tone made her love him.
Well everything about him made her love him.
He was smart and kind and sweet and he stood up for what he believed in. She wished she were something he believed in. To feel sheltered by him and to feel the softness of a kiss upon her neck as he embraced her. To be with him to be there for him to be needed by him to be needed at all.
The class was over and he was putting everything away moving around her as she felt un able to do anything around him.
"If your listening," she looked at him and spoke quietly in a voice full of wanting and wishing, "I love you"
"Huh?" Gordie looked at her fully, " Do you say something Sharon?"
"oh…umm…Can I borrow your sheet I didn't get it finished." She relied weakly.
"Oh yah sure." He smiled at her; she'd forgotten his smile how could she? That brilliant smile, if she had a choice between heaven and one smile from Gordie Lachance she'd never even see the gates of heaven. He turned his back on her and was beginning to walk out of the classroom with Chris at his side.
"Have a good weekend Gordie!" she called after him at the last hope he'd smile and wave.
Gordie turned and smiled, "You too, Sharon."
The sweetness in that smile.
