I noticed that in the tv series lost in space that doctor smith always goes from acting good to selfish to evil. When you look at it, this doesn't make sense because it is not a good survival strategy. Robot nods his head, his other hand coming up to cup the back of his head. It makes him feel safe. It reminds him of the times his parents weren't fighting. Images of when he accidentally walked into his parents doing things they would want him seeing. Of them naked and moving together.

So, the NetFlix reboot of Lost In Space established that the eldest Robinson daughter, Judy, was from a previous relationship of Maureen's, but the show never explicitly said why. So, unless this gets contradicted in Season 2, this is a vague idea I have about how that all might've happened.

(Spoilers for Season 1) They all knew that the Robot had to come from somewhere. Someone out there somewhere built him for a specific purpose, which probably wasn't protecting a child. His creators had to be out there and they probably built more. And those alien people probably would not be happy that the people on the Jupiter-2 were in possession of their creation.
