Disclaimer: Legolas and Thranduil are the only characters that do not
belong to me - they are owned by Tolkien, I am merely 'borrowing' them.
However, Elmenil and other characters are figments of my imagination and I
hope you appreciate them.
Elmenil stopped. His horse refused to go over the body that lay before it. He took a look at the maiden, clad only in a white linen dress, before he slowly turned around and trotted back.
Legolas was approaching. As he saw Elmenil, he slowed.
"There is a maiden," said Elmenil.
"A maiden?"
Legolas followed Elmenil to the body. She lay serenely with her arms neatly placed at her side, her dress still clean and white. Legolas leapt off his horse and came to crouch beside her.
"Is she one of our folk?" he asked.
"I do not know."
Legolas paused, lingered.
"Why do you worry?" asked Elmenil.
Legolas hesitated.
"Let us check," he decided.
He took off her necklace and held it in his hand.
"This maiden has mithril, it is craft of our kind," he announced to Elmenil. "She must be one of our -"
"But she is not our kind," Elmenil interjected. "She has the ear of man, and her face, although similar to ours, is different."
Elmenil paused, to think.
"You say she has craft of our kind - how can she have? Only our kind owns these jewels."
"Perhaps she is one of our kind." Legolas said. "We should take her back."
"We cannot take her back, she is not allowed in the realm."
"But we must!"
"They must never know where our realm is."
"We cannot leave her here."
"We cannot take her back."
"I will take her back."
"Father will be angry."
"He will understand."
Elmenil paused.
"I cannot help you in this. You will have to take her alone."
Legolas did not pause to think.
"Is well, I shall."
He lifted the body onto his horse and leapt up himself. Elmenil jumped onto his horse and started to ride away.
"Come!" he called. "We have yet to finish our race."
Legolas smiled and rode on.
Elmenil: literally 'pale blue' 'skies'. I am aware that Tolkien did not mention any siblings of Legolas, and I have made the name of his sibling as realistic as I could. I guessed that since Legolas means 'green leaves' 'blue skies' would probably be a suitable name for a sibling. I chose 'light blue' because when I put the two together it sounded better. (elu + menil plural of menel) Please do not confuse the 'el' with 'star'
Please read and review this, I really want to know how I can improve it!
