The Covenant had been on Talian for a good few months. They were doing what they could to survive, but everyone knew they didn't stand much of a chance. That is until an injured Spartan falls (literally) into the hands of a teenage girl who's somewhat versed in medicine and combat. Finally, the sun starts to rise over the fields of Blood and Ash.

The war is over, the Master Chief is no longer needed. John tries to assimilate into civilian life but old enemies still harbor anger and will do anything for revenge.
