The Machine
Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters. They belong to CBS etc.
Summary: character death, no spoilers.
I stand at his hospital door and watch his chest rise and fall.
It's not him breathing.
It's the machine.
Getting that call was the worst thing ever to happen to me.
Getting the call from someone, them telling you that your husband is in
hospital.
In the ICU Ward.
It's the worst thing ever to imagine happen to you.
ICU. The word you never want to hear.
After ending the call, I knew he wouldn't be coming home.
Call it gut feeling, but somehow I just knew.
I got to that hospital in record time.
And when I saw him. In his coma.
I knew. I'd never have him in my arms after making love.
Never have him tell me how beautiful I am.
How sexy I am when I wear his shirts and nothing else.
I stand at the hospital and watch his chest rise and fall.
It's not him breathing.
It's the machine.
A Nurse behind me asks me If I've made my decision.
I nod. Giving her my answer.
I walk over to where the respirator machine stands. I watch for a few
seconds, his heart beats being measured.
But I know it's not him
It's the machine.
I see the button. The off button.
My hand shakes as I reach for it.
I turn the machine off.
The sound of the machine no longer fills the room.
Silence has now taken over.
I look at his chest.
It no longer rises and falls.
The machine is off.
And so is he.
TBC... ??
