Prologue
Shinji took point, impatient with the girls. The Angel was hovering there above the street; just a weird zebra striped sphere. They were doing reconnaissance because Dr. Akagi couldn't get any kind of readings off of the Angel. Squeezing his hand, mind decided, he decided to chance it alone. Besides, Asuka wasn't that far away, she could shoot it from her position.
Asuka saw Shinji jump out from behind the building and open fire on the Angel, but as his first shots reached it, it disappeared! Suddenly the ground around Unit 01 started sucking everything down into it, including Shinji's Eva. Shinji started panicking on the intercom as alarms started blaring over the city. She noticed that as he sank, he started shooting at the ground, but it didn't appear to effect the Angel. She smiled to herself.
*Finally, my chance to prove to the world my superiority over the Invincible Baka Shinji!*
She disconnected her power cable and started running at the flailing form of Unit 01, ignoring Misato warning her away. She grabbed Shinji's power cable and pulled with all the strength in her Eva's arms. Unfortunately, the cable merely went tight without giving. The street churned up as if it were soft soil. Biting her lip, she threw the cable over her shoulder and tugged, growling when she could see Wondergirl grabbing the end of the cable and pulling.
Finally, Unit 01 managed to grab a handhold on a nearby building and pull itself free from the black pool of Angel, then he released the power cable. Rei, seeing Shinji free, released the cord unthinkingly. Asuka, free from the strain on both ends, fell on her face. What none of the pilots noticed was the loose end of the cable dropping into the pool of Angel. With lightning speed it jerked the loose cord, pulling Asuka along into it. Screaming and panicking, she tried to untangle her hands from the wire, with no success. She slid into the pool headfirst with a horrifying cessation of sound, followed by the end of the cable.

Up in Central Dogma, Misato started swearing profusely in denial. Surely Asuka would be fine! They'd beat this Angel just like the others, right?! Right?! Her brain screamed at her to fix the problem, NOW!
Next to her Ritsuko had a pale blank look upon her face. The crackle of static flowed throughout the stunned room.
