Kissed By Snow

The sun was out that winter Thursday, sparkling on the white snowy ground like it was granules of prismatic glass. Yoh bent to look at it with his hungry eyes. He liked to look at things pretty, even when he may see them every day. A finger reached out to touch the icy frosting, watching it melt against its tip, leaving a small indentation in the snow.

"Wish I could feel the snow," Amidamaru said as he floated up behind him, little swirly ghost tail following his man's torso.

Yoh smiled at him and stood back up. "I'm sure you had plenty of great experiences when you were alive," he said, scooping some up and throwing it pointlessly at the spirit, watching it fly right through him and land on the hill beyond.

Amidamaru stared at him for a second before turning to look at the squashed snowball. It glimmered with multiple colored lights in the sun, ice crystals reflecting. "True. My favorite was spring rain."

"Spring rain is nice."

They looked at one another for a long moment, content with being together, for they shared a love of nature and knew how to enjoy that feeling with one another. Yoh finally looked away and brushed his naked hands on his jeans. Snow dusted the gray sweater that hung from his thin hips. Smiling at Admidamaru, he leapt back up the porch steps and went inside. The lonely spirit watched him and sighed, looking on. Sometimes, being dead was no fun.

A mug of hot chocolate soon warmed Yoh's red chapped hands. He blew steam off the surface and took a cautious sip of the sweet hot brew. It felt good going down. Amidamaru startled him as he walked across the living room, suddenly appearing before him.

"What is it?" he asked, looking up from the mini pink marshmallows that decorated his chocolate drink.

Amidamaru's large form leaned close to the small teenage boy's, long white pony tail brushing his broad armored shoulders. Then he lightly kissed Yoh's lips. The touch was cold, sending shivers along the shaman's body until his lips turned blue. His brown eyes opened when the samurai spirit finally parted from him, and he felt tingles in his mouth where the flesh was coming back to life. It was like being kissed by snow.

"Amidamaru," he said softly, touching his fingers to his lips as he stared.

"I miss kissing," he said quietly, almost too softly to hear. Then he floated back a few feet and disappeared.

Yoh licked his lips and tasted snow. "That was weird," he said to himself. Amidamaru had kissed him. He sipped his hot chocolate and thought about it as he watched snow fall outside.
