Gus and Alaska have a task. They're stuck in purgatory, a space between life and death. Why? Because they have unfinished business in the mortal realm. And it involves their old friends.

A few weeks after his death, Hazel finds Augustus's journal that he kept during the last few weeks of his life. During this time, Augustus is up in heaven with Alaska. The story follows Hazel's last few weeks being alive.
