Umi leaned over the balcony. Staring out into the distance. Stars above winked brilliantly down upon her. Her blue eyes were sad, flashing secrets that were unknown. Heaving a sigh, she tried to block out the pain dwelling inside of her. Love was such a hard thing. Why must love hurt when you know it is farfetched. Another loved the man she loved. How could she lower her standards and go after him. Would she be mad? Umi didn't want anyone to hate her. Especially Presea, who was in love the Master Mage, Clef.
Yes, Umi was deeply in love with Clef. But she knew he was way out of her league. It was strange, she never thought she would fall in love with someone that was shorter than her. This brought a tiny giggle out of her. Memories flooded her mind, filling her with grief and sorrow for something she cannot have.
For a while, Umi was blind that someone loved her. But it was not the man she wanted. Ascot had finally confessed his love for her one day when they were alone. But she said nothing and walked off. The one thing she felt bad for. She probably crushed him. Umi knows how it feels to love someone who doesn't love you in return. And look at how she treated Ascot after all he's done for her. There was no doubt about it; he was a kind lad. But she just couldn't have those feelings for him.
Her thoughts clouded her senses. She didn't even hear the footsteps approaching her from behind. Umi closed her eyes, and a single tear fell down from the balcony and splashed down onto the surface below her. Someone cleared their throat from behind her. Her eyes shot open, and she twirled around to see whom the noise belonged to. Umi's heart skipped a beat at the figure standing before her.
"Hello Umi. Having a nice night?" A smile played on Clef's lips.
Umi said nothing. Bowing her head, she fixed her eyes to the floor. Clef cocked his head to the side in confusion. "Something wrong?"
Umi turned her back to him. Trying to pretend like he wasn't there. But his presence still lingered.
Clef walked a bit closer, "Umi is there something you want to talk about?"
"No." She whispered. Clef bobbed his head, taking this as a hint to leave.
"All right then. Good night." He began to walk away.
"Wait! There's something I need to tell you!" Umi felt like slapping herself when she spat out those words.
"Yes?" He turned to face her once more, arching an eyebrow at her curiously.
"I - well. There's something I've been meaning to tell you." She could feel her heart in her chest beat rapidly. It was either now or never. This time she wouldn't say something like, "Nevermind" like she did before.
"Ashiteru Clef!" Her cheeks turned the shade of crimson. Embarrassed, she turned her back to him again. Dreading his reaction to her sudden confession.
She could hear him walk closer to her. Standing beside her, he grabs her by the shoulders and tries to get her to face him. "Ashiteru too Umi." He smiled broadly at her. Umi's blue eyes lit up with excitement. Kneeling down to stand to his level, they share a passionate kiss. Holding each other in a warm and unbreakable embrace. Forever, loving each other.
A couple girls hid behind a corner, watching the scene with awe.
"Aww, look at them Fuu. Have you ever seen a more adorable match?"
"You and Lantis?" Fuu mused, and giggled silently as Hikaru blushed.
"Do you think we should leave?" Hikaru decided to change the subject.
"Yeah, it would be smart to." With that, the two went off to bed. Leaving to two lovers to their privacy.
