Author's Note: 'One Tin Soldier' is one of my favourite camp songs, and a singing plot bunny attacked me one night while I was sitting beside the fire. It's hard to type out, but if you can imagine the images to go along with the words, like a queer music video, it would make more sense. Ah well. Enjoy. And yes, I left the chorus out several times, but it wouldn't have fit.
Listen children to a story, that was written long ago
About a kingdom on a mountain and the valley folk below
At the dawn of a new age, men sent colonies out into space, and the human race expanded. The colonies grew and thrived, and the governments of the Earth watched over them with smugness. The colonies grew restless, and revolted.
On the mountain was a treasure, buried deep beneath a stone
And the valley people swore they'd have it for their very own.
The Earth responded with a military organization set to bring the colonies under the solid rule of the Earth Sphere. The colonies wanted autonomy and independence from the landbound Earth governments.
So the people of the valley sent a message up the hill
Asking for the buried treasure, tons of gold for which they'd kill
To further these ends, they send ambassadors to talk for peace, good men of morals, such as the Vice-Foreign Minister Darlian. These men tried for peace and freedom.
Came an answer from the kingdom, "With our brothers, we will share
All the secrets of our mountain, all the riches buried there."
The Earth responded with open arms, welcoming the colonies into a joint partnership, controlled by Romafeller, a beartrap disguised as a cufflink.
Now the valley cried with anger, "Mount your horses, draw your swords!"
And they killed the mountain people, so they won their just reward.
Secretly, some of the colony factions built massive weapons of destructions, the Gundams. With their pilots, the Gundams were sent to Earth as part of the failed Operation Meteor. With their firepower, they attacked and destroyed many of the military instalments of Romafeller and their lapdog, OZ. They also destroyed towns and parts of the colonies they were meant to protect.
As they stood beside the treasure, on the mountain, dark and red
Turned the stone and looked beneath it, "Peace on Earth," was all it said.
In the midst of all this hatred and bloodshed, a voice spoke out of the darkness, one hailing from both the warring factions, one who promised peace to end all wars. Neither Romafeller or the Gundams could silence her. They made her a queen.
Go ahead and hate your neighbour, go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven, you can justify it in the end.
But the violence continued, in her name.
There won't be any trumpets blowing, come the judgement day
On the bloody morning after, one tin soldier rides away.
From a blast of light and noise from the destruction behind him, a lone figure walks away from it, clad in black Spandex and a green tanktop, his face and body unscarred from his work of that night, but his eyes dead to the world. He would continue his work. His mission.
One tin soldier rides away.
