This Year's Girl

All you see is a mirror. Everyone looks but no one sees. Not ever. The pain and loneliness behind the smile. The fake and sad smile that is always present. All I am is a mirror.

Tears never flow. And smiles never fade. All I am is a mirror. I'm a mirror chipping at the edges. Slowly breaking because no one can fix me. No one wants to. I'm just a mirror. Mirrors are replaceable. When one breaks you can go out and buy a new one. Mirrors can't die. Mirrors are replaceable.

So tell me that you need me, that you want me and that you can't live without me. Tell me that you want me around. Tell me that it means something. Just tell me anything to believe. To know that everything that I lost, everything that I gave up was worth it. Tell me. Tell me that my parents are in heaven, tell me that my adoptive father is in a better place, tell me that my adoptive mother isn't crying over her lost family, tell me that I'm happy! Tell me that any girl would give anything to be me. Tell me that I deserve happiness. Tell me that I'm happy! Please, just tell me that I'm right.

Tell me that what I do is right. Tell me it's the right thing to do. Tell me please because I can't tell anymore. Living off broken dreams of someone I don't even remember. Spouting off ideals like a naïve child. Preaching to the world like I'm some kind of God. So, tell me that you need me. Tell me that the world wants me. Tell me that it'll be okay. Tell me that I'm doing the right thing.  Tell me that you believe in me.

All you see is a mirror. Everyone needs an idol, a savior and something to believe in. When did I become so idealized that I'm not even human. Everyone needs something to believe in and they chose me. To find comfort when time's are hard, to find understanding when no one else can, to smile when you can't. To be the angel because people need faith in someone. All I ever was is a mirror. So, tell me that I'm right.

Tell me that you need me.

That you want me.

That you believe in me.

Believe that I do the right thing.

Believe...

Make me believe that it was right.

Make me believe that I do the right thing.

Just make me believe…
