Chasing the Horizon
Harry held the tiny baby close to his chest, lulling it with the sound of both his heart and deep hums. He gently bobbed it up and down, wiping any remaining tears from its face. The baby was tired and weary but would give out pathetic little half hearted cries irregularly.
The room, painted to look like a brilliant forest, had a moonly glow to it that was accompanied with a dim night light. The bookshelves had many cuddly toys from friends & relatives adorning it and many books ranging from JRR Tolkien's tales to Beatrix Potters. Harry hummed with a little more prominence than before, slowly bringing it into a tune. He began to rock his daughter slowly in time with his bobbing and she began to quieten, her little fist clamping round her daddy's finger. Then he began to sing in a gentle and deep voice.
"Lay down......Your sweet and weary head,
Night is falling.........You have come to journey's end.
Sleep now.........Dream of the ones that came before."
Baby Dawn Lillian Potter turned her emerald eyes up to her father, sleepiness starting to settle in by the sound of the soothing tone Harry sang in.
"They are calling...........From across a distant shore.
Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see.............All of your fears will pass away."
Harry smiled down at the bundle that was slowly getting heavier with fatigue. She was beautiful to him, with her shock of black hair and doe like green eyes. He started to walk around the room, rocking her as she went.
"Safe in my arms..........You're only sleeping.
What can you see? On the Horizon? Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea........A pale moon rises.....the ships have come to carry you home."
Dawns eyes began to droop and her grip on Harry's finger lessened.
"And all will turn to silver glass.........a light on the water all souls pass.
Hope fades into the world of night...........Through shadows falling out of memory and time.
Don't say we have come now to journeys end"
Harry heard Dawn's breathe even out and walked back towards the cot in which she slept.
" White shores are calling............You and I will meet again."
He cradled her head as he lowered her in and with a kiss on her head he whispered.
"And you'll be here in my arms.........just sleeping."
Smiling down at his sleeping child he thanked every deity for blessing him with such a beautiful daughter, then walked towards the door where he turned once more then closed the door with an inaudible click.
AN done! I'm sorry, I heard this song on the Lord of the Rings soundtrack and I figured it was the kind of Lullaby Lily would sing to Harry but everyone does that (Or Sirius singing to Harry) so I figured Harry should have a shot at singing to his kid. I also figured the name Dawn was fitting as Harry has seen so many dark times that he would like a name that is light and suggests a new beginning. And I'm done with the rambling. Pleaseeeee Read and review! I'll love you and sing this song to you personally!
