Chapter 1: Disastrous Potions Lesson
It was a typical day in the 5th year Potions class. Slytherin and Gryffindor had been paired, as in years before. The class was attempting to brew a fairly complex potion called Agitatious Potable. If mixed in the correct order, with the right amount and type of ingredients, it caused the person drinking it to either spike a very high fever or bring it down to normal body temperature. In other words, it was either a poison or a cure.
"Potter!! Longbottom!!! What are you two idiots doing!?!?!?!!!!" Severus Snape, potions master at Hogwarts, screamed. Their cauldron was rapidly bubbling over a green frothy substance, instead of a calm silver-blue liquid. "We're sa-sa-sa-sorry, Professor Snape," Neville stuttered. "Silence! You numbskulls must've added the aconite before the dragon hide! Stand back! All of you!" The silent and scared Gryffindors did as told. Snape swiftly pulled his wand out and muttered something which quickly quieted the hissing potion. He then deftly turned to sneer at the cowering Longbottom and Potter. "125 points from Gryffindor each. 100 for daring to create a deadly potion in my classroom. 25 for just plain stupidity and not paying—" "But Professor Snape!" Harry interrupted. "We didn't mean to!" "Silence you brat!" 10 points from Gryffindor for speaking out of turn." He turned and stalked up to his desk. As he sat down, Snape seemed to remember something. "Oh, and Longbottom? Detention at 8 with Filch for the next two weeks. Potter. Detention with me here at 8 for two weeks. These start today." Harry, Ron, and Hermione gaped at him. Finally the blessed bell rang.
"Can you believe that!?" Ron shouted. "125 points! That's totally unfair!" Hermione replied, "Yes, well, they did make a potion that causes death if touched." "But 2 weeks detention AND 125 points off!?" Harry exclaimed. Hermione humphed. "I don't think you quiet understand the seriousness of the situation. He could have had you expelled!"
