You're Not Alone
The girl walked slowly down the street, wiping her brow and tucking her duffel bag more firmly under her arm. Track practice had been especially hard that day. But she relished it. After being away so long, the little, everyday things seemed better, each day brighter. No one knew how to explain the change that had come over her, it was a subtle one. A new light in her eyes, the occasional wistful look that came into them as she stared off into the sky.
A familiar scent wafted on the cool evening breeze, reaching the girl as
she walked home under the streetlamps. Pausing, she looked across the street to the field that occupied the empty lot. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips, and, as if on impulse, she dashed over the pavement
until her feet met the soft ground.
Long grass swayed in rippling waves with the wind, and as she looked overhead, she could see the sky dotted with stars. The lights of the city were too bright to see many, but they were there, she knew. Looking down on her silently, beneficently. And somewhere among their myriad number, he
was, too. Tears came into her eyes as she wondered if perhaps he was outside, looking at the same sky, thinking of her. A tear trailed softly
down her cheek, then disappeared before it hit the ground.
::I haven't forgotten you Van.::
A world away, the King of Fanelia stepped out onto the balcony of his newly rebuilt castle. The lights of the city twinkled below him, mirroring the stars that stood out boldly in the dark firmament of the night sky. A sky dominated by the Earth and the moon. Her world.
Something that was not a star glimmered in the darkness, and he reached out
his hand to catch the single drop of water that fell from the cloudless sky. It fell into his outstretched palm, and he closed his fingers over it, staring up into the sky. Eyes that reflected the stars closed as he let out a heavy sigh, sending his thoughts out onto the wind. He knew they
would be carried across time, across the worlds, carried by the bond
between them, a bond which transcended time and space itself.
::I miss you too, Hitomi::
