Chapter 1: The last goodbye
Step forward, slash upwards, and then roll away.
Wipe the gold dust from your brow. Golden Hair. Gray eyes. Hanging in the shower stall.
Sidestep the slash from a hellhound's paw. Riptide cuts through the beast, shoulder to hip, in one smooth arc.
Keep moving. Fight through the mental fog. The exhaustion makes my limbs feel like lead.
The cuts I left on my body stung. Each movement made them sting. That's good; the pain will keep me grounded.
Does pain keep you grounded? She was in pain, more than I knew, and when she died, she wasn't grounded.
A massive impact from behind me sent me flying forward. I collided with a massive pine tree and felt the branches begin to push into my flesh. Sorry Mom, I don't think that I'll make it out of this one.
Annabeth, I'll see you soon.
I'm sorry that I couldn't save you.

I wheezed as two more rigid branches began to push into my lung. The tree, fortunately, bent with the energy and then snapped back, the trunk smacking me in the head and letting me fall to the ground like a sack of potatoes - broken, bruised, drowning in their own blood potatoes, but still potatoes.
As a cyclops stood over me, preparing to deal the final blow. A silver arrow embedded into its brain through its eye. Killing it in one shot.
My eyelids were too heavy, and I'd lost too much blood. The world faded to black.
