Author's Note: This takes place after volume four. I know that volume five will be released soon, but this is my own take on how they deal with the events that ended volume four. Also, I don't plan for there to be any romance in this fic, but who knows what will happen in later chapters.

Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Disclaimer: I do not own Demon Diary.

By The Rivers Dark: Chapter 1

"They'll do as they please, will they?" the soft, angry voice of Lord Raenef was heard throughout the room, "How dare they?"

A few feet away, Erutis and Chris shared a look with each other, both agreeing that no good could come of this. Their silent communication was ended and they watched as Eclipse futilely tried to talk Lord Raenef out of going to the meeting of the Order of Demons. A few moments later, Lord Raenef teleported away, leaving Eclipse with the two mortals.

After a moment, Erutis spoke, "Eclipse, Raenef's sudden change is suspicious. I'm afraid that he might. . . ."

"I assure you . . . I am going to find out what's behind this. Go!" Eclipse teleported out.

He reappeared outside Meruhesae's castle and entered without announcing his arrival. Meruhesae was a seer, she would know he had come.

She was waiting for him, her mouth hidden behind her fan, when he entered her chamber of silk curtains and crystal balls. Suddenly the fan snapped shut to show the small smile on her face. "Eclipse, dear! Have you returned to me so soon?"

"I wish knowledge of Lord Raenef's future."

"It seems that he is the only reason you ever come visit anymore. However," she lowered the fan, "I can tell you nothing. I am blind to Demon Lord Raenef's future."

"If you wish payment . . . "

He was cut off by the sound of wood striking flesh as Meruhesae smacked the fan against her palm. "I would never lie about such things! This is the first and only time that I have been unable to see someone's fate."

She turned her back to him, a signal that she had nothing more to say. For a moment they both stood, in silence, until Eclipse teleported out. She turned to a nearby orb and gazed into it. Clouded though the future was, by Lord Raenef's involvement, things were going to get very interesting for Eclipse. Perhaps, she mused. It was good that the Order of Demons had decided to rescind Lord Raenef's invitation.
