Hey guys. So I've had this idea ever since I've watched stranger Things season 4, and I just had to put it down on paper (so to speak) it's not my usual style but I thought I'd give it ago anyways. So hopefully it will pay off and you'll enjoy it. Rated M for language and some violence. It follows after season 4 so will contain some spoilers, however I do not follow the whole plot.
Disclaimer: I do not own stranger things or any of its character except my own.
Title: The true calling of Edward Munson
It was cold, to cold. Opening his eyes, Eddie glanced around him. The sky was dark, every so often a streak of red lightning would flash across it. So he hadn't dreamed it. He was in the upside down after all. Though that brought him no comfort what so ever.
"Hang on a minute" A sudden thought entered Eddie's head, "How am I awake? Didn't I die?"
Sitting up straight he looked around. There on the floor were hundreds of dead demobats. So he knew he hadn't dreamt that either. They had attacked him to the point he had bled to death, he was sure of it. A sudden urge of curiosity took over took him as he quickly began to check his body for wounds. His shirt was torn and bloodied.
"Shit! I'm going to have to buy a new one now..." He thought to himself as he continued his observations. To his complete surprise however, not a single wound remained on his body. In fact, the only thing wrong with him was that the coldness from the floor still lingered on him. Well that and this uncomfortable burning sensation in the back of his throat and a hunger for something he couldn't quite place. Thinking rationally, he put the hunger down to not eating for a good few hours. Prodding around his stomach, chest and legs, he made sure there was definitely no hint of his previous injuries, and, seeing as no pain could be felt anywhere, he knew he was in the clear.
"Did I actually dream it?" he asked himself out loud as he began to question himself still looking around. Then another sudden thought crossed his mind, "Dustin!"
He began to scan the area wildly whilst shouting Dustin's name.
"Henderson! Henderson where are you?! Stop playing games man! I know your here somewhere!" There was no reply, "Dustin?! Come on man! This isn't funny!"
Again there was no reply. Glancing towards his trailer he made the decision to go and check if his friend was hiding in there. He thought that maybe the demobats or another creature had scared him bad enough to seek shelter again or in the worst case scenario, injured him. Walking slowly at first, he thought that if it was another kind of monster that had scared his friend, then maybe it was still around somewhere and could attack him to. But the closer to his trailer he got, the faster he began to move. The moment he placed his hand on the trailers handle ready to open the door however, the floor began to shake a little making Eddie step back in surprise. Slowly, the shaking began to get steadily worse.
"Shit! An earthquake!" He panicked. His first thought was to seek shelter inside of his trailer but then instinct took over and instead, he began to run away from it. He had just cleared the trailer when it broke in half and the floor began to split apart. Believing he had cleared enough distance, Eddie turned to watch in dismay as his trailer was completely destroyed and the crack leading away from it continued to head towards the town. Eventually the shaking stopped and the ground was once again still. The crack, which was glowing a brilliant red, quickly began to fade again before it became just an empty hole that lead out of the trailer park.
Gathering up his courage again, Eddie began to move towards his trailer once more, or at least, what was left of it.
"Damn! What the hell happened here?" he thought as he carefully navigated the ground. He stopped when he became painfully aware of something as he looked at his ruined trailer, "Shit, how am I supposed to get home now?"
He didn't think himself a genius in anyway but it didn't take a rocket scientist to know that the portal from the upside down into his living, normal world, was gone.
"What do I do? What do I do?" he began to question himself out loud as he placed both hands on his head and looked around himself in panic.
"Dustin!" He shouted out loud one last time, "Dustin! Please..." He trailed before losing all hope.
"Your friends are no longer here" A strange rough voice answered him.
"Who said that?" Eddie asked slightly panicked but also intrigued. He looked around himself again but saw no one.
"Come to me and all will become clear" the voice spoke to him again.
"Who are you?" Eddie asked again now realising the voice was coming from inside of his head.
"Come to me"
"Where are you?" Eddie asked once more but then realised he had begun walking. He didn't know where he was going but his legs sure did.
He didn't hear the voice again as his legs took him to whatever destination they were heading for and he didn't care to try and speak to it anyways. Instead he used the time to think over what had happened to him. The last thing he remembered before he must have passed out was being attacked by demobats and of course Dustin being by his side, saying their goodbyes... He was sure he had died. He was sure he was injured. So what the hell? Why was he perfectly healthy? Why was he still walking around like nothing had happened? Why was he so cold? Why did his throat burn like this? Was it because of the damage he had took? But even then, where was that damage?!
As he walked he noticed his path was surprisingly clear, no monsters, no vines, nothing... After what seemed like a lifetime, he noticed a red mist in front of him. His legs continued towards it no matter how much his body protested. Was it even safe to walk through? It made no difference, he was going through whether he wanted to or not. He closed his eyes as he entered the mist afraid of what might be waiting for him on the other side. It took him a few moments before he was brave enough to open them again, but once he did he wanted to turn around and leave again. Though the upside down wasn't exactly anywhere you wanted to be, it's vibe wasn't as dark as this place. Spike like rocks were everywhere sticking out of the ground, those horrible vine things were everywhere. And of course there was the obvious of the weird floating pieces of house in front of him that looked oddly familiar to him.
"Where the hell am I now?" Eddie asked himself as he looked around in awe. He had regained control of his legs but he was still walking forward. That was until he saw something that made him stop in his tracks. There in front of him was the corpse of the Jock that had went after him that day the portal in the lake had opened. He stared at it as he slowly began to back away in horror, he had witnessed a death like that more than he would have liked. And now to see the aftermath was to much. He spun around hoping to never see anything like that again. But their, waiting for him the moment he looked up was something that made him want to throw up.
"Chri...Chrissy?"
His eyes widened in shock and despair as he walked closer to the deformed corpse of his former friend that seemed to be up on display for this whole messed up world to see. If he had anything on his stomach, he was sure it wouldn't have been there now.
"Chrissy I...I'm... I'm so sorry!" He stammered as tears began to leave his eyes, "Please, please forgive me!" He begged as he gently touched her cheek and regretting it instantly as he quickly pulled his hand away from the coldness and slime.
"Ah, I see you've become acquainted with my garden" that husky voice from before spoke to him again, but this time, from somewhere behind him.
"Who the hell said that?!" Eddie almost screeched as he spun round furious. He wasn't prepared for who he saw though, "V...Vecna?"
"It's nice to formally meet you Edward" Vecna grinned a little amused at his new name as he slowly walked towards the scared male.
"How?" Eddie questioned before letting his adrenaline take over with his anger, "How could you do this to Chrissy?"
"Shh you don't have to mourn her. She's not really dead, rather, she's become part of something bigger. Her sacrifice was not in vain"
"Fuck you and your lies! Chrissy would not have wanted this! I saw her! I saw her afraid and vulnerable. So much so that she came to me! To me! To buy drugs...to try and keep you, out of her head!"
"I assure you, its because of her that my mission is going according to plan. I have a lot to be grateful for because of her and the others sacrifices" Vecna continued.
"Wait...wait...your mission has failed, you haven't got max yet... the others are on their way to kill you right now!" Eddie threatened him smugly, then realisation hit him, "Wait..."
Vecna stopped metres from Eddie as he watched him gradually piece together how his previous statement was wrong.
"You...you should be dead..." Eddie eventually stuttered out.
"Yes, your friends tried desperately to kill me, but I managed to escape though, they did do a lot of damage to me. I've been weakened tremendously. Thankfully, I was able to complete my task before that attack happened"
"M...max?" Eddies eyes widened with fear. He began to frantically search for Max's body. As much as he didn't want to witness it, it was the only way he would know that Vecna was telling the truth. Thankfully, he couldn't find it, "Your lying!" He shouted at the amused monster.
"Oh really? Then how do you explain the portal that has opened? I was only able to complete it thanks to her"
"What portal?"
"Surely you know what I'm talking about? You watched it open yourself"
Eddie stared confused before the obvious hit him.
"The earthquake...it opened the ground for miles..."
Vecna smiled as if confirming.
"But that can't have been because of max" Eddie pointed out angrily, "If it was, then why isn't she here?"
"I admit, I was distracted before I could completely take her, but I still got what I needed"
"By distracted you mean attacked?" Eddie smirked.
"Smile all you like, I'm still alive and with time I will heal. Which is more than could be said for you"
"Take a closer look buddy. I'm perfectly fine" Eddie bragged as if pointing out the obvious, smacking his chest for extra effect.
"Your only walking around right now because I am allowing you to"
"So kill me already, why else would you summon me here? I didn't think a casual chit chat was your kind of style. Your more of a..." He took a quick glance at Chrissy's body whilst choking back a gag before staring Vecna back in the eyes, "Your more of a... Well, that kind of guy"
"You misunderstand the situation" Vecna smirked, "You are not alive, at least, not in the way you used to be"
"What?" Eddie asked with a raised eyebrow completely confused.
"You Edward Munson, are now my right hand man. I have been weakened greatly and need time to recover. Because of this, I have chosen you to carry out work for me. I have merged your DNA with that of one of this worlds creatures, saving you from death. You have become something that you will begin to understand very soon" Vecna explained.
"Yeah man of course" Eddie scoffed, "You really want me to believe that you've brought me back to life by mixing one of your fucked up creatures with me? And then you expect me to start working for you? I say bullshit and again... bullshit. That is not true and that is never going to happen!"
"It is true, and you don't really have a choice"
"Oh yeah? Well watch me leave right now!" Eddie turned and began walking away. He was suddenly stopped in his tracks as if he had walked into a brick wall, arms stuck at his sides, head stuck in position. His feet left the ground as he was dragged backwards. Once he had reached the place he had just left, he was spun around to come face to face with Vecna again.
"Where do you think your going?" the monster asked mockingly.
"Well, I was thinking anywhere away from here, but I guess not..." Eddie answered as he struggled against whatever force held him.
"You will do as I tell you or there will be dire consequences" Vecna warned him before lifting one of Eddie's arms with his powers, "I may not be my strongest self right now, but I can still do this"
"Wh...what are you doing?" Eddie panicked before letting out a wail of pain as Vecna snapped his wrist.
Eddie was dropped to the ground as Vecna held his own head as if in pain as he watched the young male scream in agony. Cradling his broken wrist, fighting back another cry of pain, Eddie noticed his finger nails were a little longer and extremely sharp.
"What the fuck?" He thought to himself as he sucked in another hiss of pain. How hadn't he noticed them earlier? He didn't get much time to dwell on it as he was once again lifted off of the ground, "Look man, if your going to kill me, just do it!" Eddie shouted at Vecna trying to sound braver than he was feeling.
"Oh, I'm not going to kill you. Any bone I break of yours, will heal quickly enough. You have the hive regeneration to thank for that" Vecna laughed harshly, "You are going to work for me because I can control you. I made you walk here after all. Though I'd rather it was by your own free will. After all, controlling someone in my current state is rather tasking"
Eddie knew that what Vecna was saying was true, he knew that his legs weren't moving him here before because he wanted them to. Though if Vecna couldn't keep constant control because of his injuries, maybe it would make it easier for him to escape.
"I will punish you for any disobedience, such as now when you have forced me to break your wrist. Except, because you heal so quickly, your pain will be constant. Trying to escape me will be impossible. We're connected through minds now. I will track you and cause you as much pain as necessary"
"Damn!" Eddie thought to himself as his plan to escape went out of the window.
"As a reward for working for me, I'll let you kill those traitors that left you here to rot and injured me so badly!"
"What traitors?" Eddie choked out confused. Then realisation hit, was he talking about Dustin and the others? They weren't traitors! "They are not traitors!" Eddie shouted, "They are my friends!"
"I can show you how that isn't true" Vecna offered.
"I want nothing from you!"
"Shame" Vecna smirked as he placed one of his deformed hands on Eddie's temple, "You need to see the truth. After which, I think you will gladly work for me rather than be controlled"
Eddie opened his eyes, only they weren't his eyes. He seemed to be some king of creature or at least, this is what he guessed judging by its strange eyesight. He saw everything in different shades of red. It was extremely disorientating, but he could make out every detail as if he had his normal human eyesight. Focusing as best as he could, he could see that whatever this creature was, it was looking at some kind of mass next to it. Looking at the shape he was finally able to see that it was a human, lying down, on the ground, with another human next to them. Wait... they looked oddly familiar.
"I...Its me!" Eddie suddenly thought to himself as realisation hit him, "And that's Dustin! What the hell is going on?"
"Just watch Edward" that husky voice that belonged to Vecna spoke to him through his mind, "All will become clear soon"
Having no choice but to watch as he couldn't leave this body, or talk, he kept his eyes fixed on what was happening in front of him.
He had obviously died already, or so it seemed at least. Dustin was sat by him in silence. Eddie couldn't tell what he was thinking, but he was blankly staring around at all the felled demobats his gaze finally falling upon Eddie in what ever body he was in now.
"So I'm guessing I'm a demobat right now..." Eddie thought to himself as he continued to watch.
Eventually he heard familiar shouts coming from a distance.
"Nancy, Robin and Steve must be coming back!" Eddie thought.
This was soon confirmed when they came into view heading directly towards Dustin in a hurry.
"Dustin! Eddie! We need to go!" Steve shouted as he finally reached them.
"Eddie's not going anywhere" Dustin answered, a little to coldly for Eddie's liking. He quickly brushed the thought aside. He was probably reading to much into. After all, he just witnessed what he thought was his friend dying.
"What do you mean?" Nancy asked as she and Robin finally caught up to Steve.
"Hey Eddie! Come on! Now is not the time to be lying around!" Steve demanded as he jabbed Eddie in the side with his foot.
"Wait...what's with all the blood?" Robin asked as she got a little closer, then gasped as she stepped backwards again, "Is he dead?"
"No" Dustin answered, again to coldly for Eddie's liking, "He still has a pulse"
"What the hell happened?" Robin asked again as she glanced around at all the dead demobats.
"This idiot decided to be a hero, just like you told us not to do. And not so surprisingly, look where it got him..." Dustin answered sarcastically.
Ok it was getting a little harder to brush off now.
"Idiot" Nancy rolled her eyes, "Now we have to deal with the after math once again..."
"We need to go!" Steve spoke again, "Get him up. If he can't walk, we're going to have to leave him. None of us can drag him through the portal back"
"Then leave him" Dustin shrugged as he stood up and began to walk away but not before snapping away Eddies chain that held his guitar pick, "He's not going anywhere soon. He'll be dead soon enough. So there is no point"
Eddie couldn't believe what he was witnessing. Surely their all bluffing, maybe he was mishearing things. He thought his friends would do anything in their power to get him back to their world. Especially if he still had a pulse! He could be saved if they just dragged him back. Dustin had seemed so sincere when they had said their goodbyes, he even cried. Surely he wasn't that good of an actor! Various scenarios ran through Eddies mind. Maybe they were resentful for having to run around after him all this time. Maybe hiding him and bringing him food was to much for them in the end and now they were glad to be rid of him. They might even blame him for Vecna showing up in the first place. After all, he had first attacked at his trailer. He didn't want to witness this betrayal, but he had no choice, Vecna was cruelly forcing him to watch through the eyes of a dead demobat.
"I suppose dragging his body back will be a bit of a chore if he's going to die anyways" Nancy confirmed.
"Yeah, nobody up top will miss him. We'll just be wasting our breath and time. They all blame him for this mess anyways. At least we won't have to hide him anymore" Steve agreed.
"Once everyone hears he's dead, maybe we'll finally get some peace" Dustin sighed as if relieved.
"Let's just go" Robin began to rush them, "We don't know where Vecna is or if he's even took any damage! We need to get out of here!"
"Your right, lets go!" Steve agreed as he and Robin quickly headed for Eddie's trailer.
"You'll have to stack boxes on top of each other or something..." Dustin added as he took one more pitiful look back at Eddie's body, "This dumb arse cut the sheets down"
The others groaned but eventually each one had vanished through the trailer door, never to return for Eddie who lay there, covered in blood, alone. If he could move, he would have went after them, pleading for them to take him with them. Asking them why they had said those things. But he was stuck. Feelings of sadness were being overwhelmed by anger. How could they say those things?! He thought they were good people, how could he be so wrong? After he had given everything to make sure Dustin, and the portal to their world, was safe from the demobats. He was brought out of his thoughts when all of a sudden the demobat he was spying from began to slowly move. It dragged itself towards Eddie's body.
"What's it doing?" Eddie asked alarmed.
"Watch and see" Vecna answered amused.
Eddie did just that. Once the bat had reached his body, it climbed onto his chest. Without warning, it turned into some kind of mush before beginning to enter his body via his mouth and nostrils. Once fully gone, he woke up gasping and choking for breath as he quickly opened his eyes. Eddie found himself outside of the upside downs Creel house, no longer occupying the demobats body or mind. Looking around, no deformed bodies or floating pieces of house were in sight, so where had he been before? Remembering what had just happend, he quickly sat up and began to prod and poke at his nose and mouth. He regretted doing that as he got a harsh reminder of his new found manicure.
"What the hell was that? What did you put in me?" he shouted horrified.
"No need to worry" Vecna's voice came to him again, "I just made you a better version of yourself. Check your wrist?"
Eddie wondered why Vecna would tell him to check his wrist. Then it suddenly came back to him. His wrist was no longer broken! It had fixed itself quickly enough for him not to notice!
"What the actual fuck?" Eddie asked himself as he slowly inspected his wrist in front of his face.
"You'll discover more of what you can do on your own. It's no fun to give it all away at once after all" Vecna continued.
Eddie sighed heavily as he pulled his knees up and rested his head on them in dismay. He still couldn't believe his so called friends would treat him that way. To make things worse, he was trapped here with a strange slime like bat thing inside of him with quick healing abilities that the man who gave them to him, was threatening to use against him if he didn't cooperate!
"So... Do you agree to my terms Edward?" Vecna asked as if on cue.
Eddie thought for a moment. On one hand he didn't owe those people in the right side up any favours, they had deserted him at the first opportunity. Plus, nobody above wanted him there, he was still being blamed for the murders and strange goings on. On the other hand, he didn't really want to work for Vecna either. He had killed Chrissy after all, which also helped kick-start the hate campaign against him.
"If you work with me" Vecna continued, "I'll bring your precious Chrissy back for you"
"What?" Eddie asked surprised but sceptical, "I saw what you did to her, that can't be possible..."
"It is? I brought you back after all"
"But... I saw... I didn't die..." Eddie pointed out.
"You did, but just before I merged that creature with you" Vecna explained without missing a beat. Eddie had no reason not to believe him. He was certain he had died to, but he thought it was much sooner than the flashback showed him.
"What do you want me to do?" Eddie asked as he stood up.
"I want you to bring me Eleven"
"The magic girl that Dustin, Steve and the others told me about? How will I know who she is? I've never met her before..."
"You'll know. Do this simple task and I will give you Chrissy back. You can also take revenge upon the town and Village that deserted you. Use the new found power I have granted you to your advantage"
"Ok, I'm in" Eddie agreed after slight hesitation, a small smirk on his face. Right now revenge sounded to good. Why should he care what Vecna's ultimate plan was? He didn't know this Eleven girl. Who cared what happened to her, she'd probably think he was a freak like everyone else did anyways. Plus, the town deserved what it got after what it had done to him.
"Good" Vecna's amused tone sounded in Eddie's mind as a small portal opened up inside of the massive split that had cracked the house and street open, "Now, go through and discover what you have become. And what ever you do, do not let Eleven close any of my portals and bring her to me!"
"With pleasure!" Eddie grinned as he readily jumped through the portal, "You better keep your promise though!"
Well that was what I wanted to write. I hope I portrayed it well and you all enjoyed it. Personally I don't know if the Kas theory is going to be true, and if it is, there's no saying it will be Eddie, but I'm sure we are all hoping it is haha. I can expand this fanfic but that's only if you guys think I should. I'm working on another fic atm aswell so I will be filtering between the two if that's the case. So please let me know what you think about this fic and also if you wish for me to continue it. Thank you all for reading. Until next time!
