Chapter 1
Tanner was a hard person to get trust from.
He was frugal, loved privacy, and you could count the number of friends he had on one hand.
He didn't like making friends, because some of the first ones he made helped him exactly how insurance would: make him give them something, hold onto it, and made an excuse as to how they couldn't help them.
Ever since, it felt like everyone wanted to use him till he ran dry of things to give.
So after a long day of high school, he went to what he saw was the most comfortable place in the city: the museum.
There were a pair of items in the museum that he loved seeing the most. But first, the ticket.
$25 dollars went into the hands of someone he didn't know, but he'd give anything to see them again.
He passed by some dinosaur skeletons, some gems and fancy rocks, things that he didn't care about, and took the escalator to the second floor.
He proceeded to walk past many of the heroes of history, still keeping in mind the fact that they gave their lives for something they believed in wholeheartedly.
At last, there they were: a pair of gauntlets, containing hidden blades within. He wasn't an engineer, but he always loved seeing all the mechanisms that could make the blade slide out.
Although something was different this time: usually he would have a feeling of comfort and ease seeing them, but this time he had a feeling of tension. To him, it felt like everything inside him wanted to destroy the glass and reclaim the blades. Wait, reclaim? As soon as he analyzed that thought, it disappeared, leaving behind the urge to take the hidden blades. The thought continued to haunt him, refusing to let him think of anything else.
He finally promised himself he would take back the blades, then the haunting thought finally left him.
Tanner also hated making promises, having others break their promises. He also disliked the concept of sacrificing someone a portion of your power or time just so you could please them or gain something you could've gained yourself.
But when Tanner makes a promise (if ever) he does it unless death stops him.
