Flowers From The Heart
Part Ten

Duo froze as the sound of the door entered his ears. 'Too late!" Part of his mind was screaming at him, while the other part yelled 'Run! Run!' Duo could feel his friends hand holding him there besides him. Trowa must of known Duo would break into a run if not for that hand. Duo glanced quickly at Trowa.
'I can't abandon him...remain calm Duo.' Duo straightened up and turned to face the person answering the door.
An older lady stood in the door way looking at the two boys on her door step. She'd never seen them before in town, so she wondered who they were and why they were at her home.
"Can I help you boys?" She asks smiling at them. She looks Duo and notices his nervous fiddling.
Trowa cleared his throat and steps forward. "We were looking for a Miss Emily Elm. Is she here? Does she live here I mean?"
Lady tilts her head to the side and then nods. "Yes she does. She's in her room painting...but please come in and I'll go get her."
"Uhh...." Duo stammered.
Trowa nods. "Thank you ma'am."
Duo looks at Trowa and tries to get his attention as he walks inside. Duo stands out there looking at the lady as she smiles and keeps the door open for him. Duo sighs and walks in.
"Thanks..." Duo walks next to Trowa.
"It'll be just a minute." She walks up the stairs in the hallway.
Duo turns and glares at Trowa. "What are we doing inside the house?! I thought we were going to just stand outside so we wouldn't have to cause a scene and trouble...I don't like this idea Trowa." Duo crosses his arms and sits down. "We're crowding their territory."
Trowa remains quiet and watches for the young girl to come down stairs. Duo groans.
"Now you're going to ignore me are you? Fine...I think maybe I'll just go outside and wait for you to be throwing out." Duo stands up and heads for the door. "Don't go and do anything foolish Trowa." Duo opens the door and goes outside.
Trowa sighs. 'He's right...I shouldn't of accepted to come inside...' Trowa looks around the room. There were a lot of photographs hanging on the wall. Photos of the lady who had let them in and of a young man dressed in military uniform. Trowa caught a glimpse of a baby photograph, so he stood up and walked over to the fire place mantel to look at all the photographs of the little child. She had big black curls framing her face, through out all the pictures, violet eyes and a bright smile.
'Must be Emily...' Trowa thought to himself as he places one of the photographs down.
"Are you some kind of photographer?" A voice asks from behind him.
Trowa turns around and looks at the same girl he saw in the photographs, only she was a few years older now. Trowa stood quietly looking at her.
"I just say that cause you seem to have been admiring the photographs so much. It certainly wasn't because of me." She smiles. "I'm just a kid after all." She walks over to the photographs. "I'm Emily...my mom said you were wanting to talk to me. She did say there were two of you but I only see you so..."
"Sorry he had to go back to the car, he forgot something there." Trowa clears his throat. "I'm Trowa Barton...." He says and pauses to see if the name alone makes her think of throwing him out. Emily simply smiles.
"It's a pleasure to you then, Mr. Barton."
Trowa smiles. "Just call me Trowa...I'm not exactly an older guy." Emily laughs.
"I'm sorry." She sits down on the couch across from Trowa. "What can I do for you Trowa?"
Trowa sits and thinks for a moment. "I have come here to ask you for a favor....but before I can ask you for this favor I have to tell you who I am."
Emily looks at him questionly. "You told me who you are...or is that not your name."
Trowa smiles slightly at the question. "No I am Trowa Barton...but what I mean is...it has to deal with something that is very important to you and happened to your family."
Emily sits silently for a moment. "Perhaps we should walk outside and you can tell me then."
Trowa nods and stands up, as does Emily.

Quatre finishes dushing the instruments and cases in the music room. 'It's hard to believe with constant cleaning this place still collects so much dust.' He closes his eyes as he listens to a tape he and Trowa had recorded, him playing the piano and Trowa his flute. It was a beautiful tape to listen to, one Quatre cherished.
'I wonder how he's doing in Venice...maybe I should turn on the news and see what is going on there that he and Duo had been sent out. I don't think I've seen anything in the news about it. So what could it have been?'
He reaches for the switch for the radio, when the phone rings. Quatre walks over to it and sits down on the paino bench and picks up the phone.
"Hello, Quatre speaking. Who may I ask is calling?" Quatre asks gently into the phone.
"Master Quatre, hello! This is..."
"Rashid, hello my friend. How are things going for you and the mangancs?" Quatre asks genuinely happy to hear from his friend.
"Everything is going well, Master Quatre. We need to know if you and the other Gundam Pilots still want us to go by the estate this coming weekend." Rashid told Quatre.
Quatre thought for a moment. "I almost forgot about the plans. I don't know if it'll be a very cheery atmosphere to be coming to but yes things are still in order for you to come here."
Rashid calmly asks. "What is the matter Master Quatre?"
"Oh it's nothing Rashid, just a little arguing amongst Trowa and myself. Well not really arguing, we're just...apart right now." Quatre keeps his voice even. "I must be going though Rashid. I look forward to seeing you and the mangnac corp here this weekend."
"...Very well. Until then Master Quatre." Rashid hangs up the phone.
Quatre smiles to himself. 'It'll be nice to have them here for a while. I look forward to it.'

Trowa walked beside Emily as she told him about the area. It was very beautiful and green all around the her house. Trowa smiled and thought of Quatre. 'He'd love it here...I'm sure he would.'
"Trowa...would you like to tell me what is it you wanted to ask me and what you need to tell me as well??" Emily interrupts his thoughts.
Trowa stands in front of Emily. "Very well...know that I didn't come here to bring you any grief or to bring you no harm." He waited as Emily stood and nodded. "I'm a Gundam pilot...and so it's possible that I was the one who shot down your father back when you were twelve. I'm sorry for this...and for having to come here to ask you for a favor. I don't deserve it but...I still had to chance asking you." Trowa pauses as Emily wipes some tears from her face.
"I'm sorry too Trowa." She looks out at the open field. "My father was a wonderful father...he was very caring of his family and very protective of us. I know he didn't agree to wars and battles but he wanted the best for us, and therefore he took up mobile suits and weapons. He told me to pray every night for peace and the end of this tiresome war against the colonies and Gundams. I did, but it wasn't enough to save my father, I suppose. Or save you and your friends from all you've done and had to go through. I'm not angry, nor do I hate you...how could I? I'd be a heartless person...like so many people can be in times of war. You were simply doing and fighting for what you believed in and so was my father, you both stood on oppsite sides of the battle field, but had the same desires...peace. It's very ironic how such things can happen, but it does happen. If you want me to tell you face to face that I don't blame you...well here I am now Trowa...I don't hate you and I don't blame you." She says to Trowa staring into his eyes. "What is the favor you wish to ask of me? I can tell it's very important to you, because you came all the way here and because ...I can feel it."
Trowa takes a deep breathe. "I wanted to ask you to give me some of your lilies...the ones you have planeted for your father's memory." Trowa stared back at her.
Emily nods quietly. "Very well...come with me Trowa." She turns towards her house and starts walking with Trowa behind her.

Duo shook his head as soon as Trowa finished telling him the whole story about talking to Emily and getting the flowers.
"That's so unbelieveable. She has a big heart...especially after what she had to go through." Duo shifted in his chair. "And you were pretty brave to talk to her and tell all that you did Tro."
Trowa nods. "I suppose so. I don't feel that way..." He put the carrier on autopilot. "Now all that's left is to get the rest of the flowers and start planting them...Duo. I'm going to gather the flowers tonight...you have to make out the plan to get Quatre out of the house tomorrow morning."
Duo yawns. "Sure thing Tro. Good thing I get to rest up tonight...I'm bushed. What is tomorrow anyways?"
"Saturday, I believe." Trowa looks down at the lilies he had sitting next to his chair. "Saturday is a good day to plant a garden for the one you love."
